El Thoroughbred es una raza de caballo grande de clase Race en Red Dead Redemption 2. Es un caballo de carreras, reconocible por sus patas delgadas, su cuerpo atlético y su pecho profundo. Frente a otros caballos de carreras, suele contar con gran velocidad y aceleración, a cambio de menor salud y resistencia. Su manejo Race le da rapidez de respuesta y agilidad, aunque puede volverse torpe si se le exige demasiado.
La raza está orientada a carreras cortas, donde aprovecha su velocidad y aceleración. Los Thoroughbreds aparecen en zonas Wilderness y Transitory, y algunos pelajes también se pueden comprar. Los pelajes regulares son Blood Bay, Dapple Gray y Brindle. Reverse Dapple Black es una variante especial, mientras que Black Chestnut Thoroughbred es exclusivo de Red Dead Online.
Rachel es la Thoroughbred de John Marston en 1907 y pasa a ser el caballo predeterminado durante el epílogo. Tiene un pelaje Seal Brown único. Rachel puede guardarse en un establo, venderse, recibir otro nombre, cambiar de aspecto y equiparse con mejor equipo, pero no puede recuperarse si se pierde.

- ◆There is an unused Thoroughbred that was intended to be used in the mission "Enter, Pursued by a Memory", being the horse that was formerly ridden by John. This Silver Bay is very thin like the Scrawny Nags, and has the same stats as a generic Kentucky Saddler (RDR 2). There are two versions of the Silver Bay, one of which is much skinnier than the other. The stirrups on the skinny version are glitched unless the horse is being ridden and attempting to modify the components on this version of the horse will make the horse invisible. This horse cannot be stabled and will instead remove slots from the stable permanently upon attempting to do so.
- ◆It is possible to spawn all Thoroughbreds including the Silver Bay, the Black Chestnut, and the Reverse Dapple Black using the cheat codes "Run! Run! Run!" or "You want something new".
- ◆Like other unused and Online horses, if the Black Chestnut or Silver Bay is spawned into the game's story mode, the horse is undefined by the game and permanently removes slots in the stable when tamed. In addition, the horses cannot be stored in a stable or sold, and their appearance cannot be modified.
- ◆Once purchased, the Reverse Dapple Black Thoroughbred cannot be sold. If the player bonds with two horses while the horse is out or the horse dies, the player will no longer have ownership of the horse, but they can acquire a new Reverse Dapple Black Thoroughbred from the stable.
