The Thoroughbred is a large Race-class horse breed in Red Dead Redemption 2. It is built as a race horse, with lean legs, an athletic frame and a deep chest. Thoroughbreds have strong speed and acceleration compared with other racing horses, while their health and stamina are lower. Their Race handling makes them responsive and agile, though they can become clumsy when pushed too hard.
The breed is suited to short races, where its pace and quick acceleration can be put to use. Thoroughbreds are found in wilderness and transitory areas, and certain coat variants can also be bought. Regular coats include Blood Bay, Dapple Gray and Brindle. The Reverse Dapple Black is a special variant, while the Black Chestnut Thoroughbred is exclusive to Red Dead Online.
Rachel is John Marston's Thoroughbred in 1907 and becomes the default horse during the epilogue. She has a unique Seal Brown coat. Rachel can be kept at a stable, sold, renamed, restyled and fitted with improved gear, but she cannot be obtained again if she is lost.

- โThere is an unused Thoroughbred that was intended to be used in the mission "Enter, Pursued by a Memory", being the horse that was formerly ridden by John. This Silver Bay is very thin like the Scrawny Nags, and has the same stats as a generic Kentucky Saddler (RDR 2). There are two versions of the Silver Bay, one of which is much skinnier than the other. The stirrups on the skinny version are glitched unless the horse is being ridden and attempting to modify the components on this version of the horse will make the horse invisible. This horse cannot be stabled and will instead remove slots from the stable permanently upon attempting to do so.
- โIt is possible to spawn all Thoroughbreds including the Silver Bay, the Black Chestnut, and the Reverse Dapple Black using the cheat codes "Run! Run! Run!" or "You want something new".
- โLike other unused and Online horses, if the Black Chestnut or Silver Bay is spawned into the game's story mode, the horse is undefined by the game and permanently removes slots in the stable when tamed. In addition, the horses cannot be stored in a stable or sold, and their appearance cannot be modified.
- โOnce purchased, the Reverse Dapple Black Thoroughbred cannot be sold. If the player bonds with two horses while the horse is out or the horse dies, the player will no longer have ownership of the horse, but they can acquire a new Reverse Dapple Black Thoroughbred from the stable.
