Le Thoroughbred est une grande race de cheval de catégorie Race dans Red Dead Redemption 2. Il est conçu comme un cheval de course, avec des jambes fines, une silhouette athlétique et une poitrine profonde. Les Thoroughbreds disposent d'une vitesse et d'une accélération élevées par rapport aux autres chevaux de course, mais leur santé et leur endurance sont inférieures. Leur maniement Race les rend réactifs et agiles, bien qu'ils puissent devenir maladroits lorsqu'ils sont trop sollicités.
La race est adaptée aux courses courtes, où son allure et sa vive accélération peuvent être exploitées. Les Thoroughbreds se trouvent dans les zones sauvages et de passage, et certaines variantes de robe peuvent également être achetées. Les robes ordinaires comprennent Blood Bay, Dapple Gray et Brindle. Le Reverse Dapple Black est une variante spéciale, tandis que le Black Chestnut Thoroughbred est exclusif à Red Dead Online.
Rachel est le Thoroughbred de John Marston en 1907 et devient le cheval par défaut durant l'épilogue. Elle possède une robe Seal Brown unique. Rachel peut être gardée dans une écurie, vendue, renommée, restylée et équipée d'un meilleur matériel, mais elle ne peut pas être obtenue à nouveau si elle est perdue.

- ◆There is an unused Thoroughbred that was intended to be used in the mission "Enter, Pursued by a Memory", being the horse that was formerly ridden by John. This Silver Bay is very thin like the Scrawny Nags, and has the same stats as a generic Kentucky Saddler (RDR 2). There are two versions of the Silver Bay, one of which is much skinnier than the other. The stirrups on the skinny version are glitched unless the horse is being ridden and attempting to modify the components on this version of the horse will make the horse invisible. This horse cannot be stabled and will instead remove slots from the stable permanently upon attempting to do so.
- ◆It is possible to spawn all Thoroughbreds including the Silver Bay, the Black Chestnut, and the Reverse Dapple Black using the cheat codes "Run! Run! Run!" or "You want something new".
- ◆Like other unused and Online horses, if the Black Chestnut or Silver Bay is spawned into the game's story mode, the horse is undefined by the game and permanently removes slots in the stable when tamed. In addition, the horses cannot be stored in a stable or sold, and their appearance cannot be modified.
- ◆Once purchased, the Reverse Dapple Black Thoroughbred cannot be sold. If the player bonds with two horses while the horse is out or the horse dies, the player will no longer have ownership of the horse, but they can acquire a new Reverse Dapple Black Thoroughbred from the stable.
