Player notes

John Marston finds Mario Alcalde beating Eva Cortes outside Casa Madrugada. Eva is Mario's prostitute, and John steps in before the assault continues. Mario agrees to let her go only if John pays for her freedom. John gives him the money, and Eva thanks him before leaving Casa Madrugada for Las Hermanas.

After several days, John goes to Las Hermanas to ask after Eva. Inside the church, Sister Ana tells him that Eva has left with a man and that they were travelling toward Sepulcro. John follows the lead from the church to the cemetery.

At Sepulcro, John finds Mario digging Eva out of a shallow grave. Mario insists that he did not kill her, claiming that he only struck her. John demands his money back and challenges Mario to a duel. Mario draws first, but John shoots him dead, then searches his body beside Eva's grave.

Trivia

  • โ—†If you walk away at the first encounter, you will fail the mission and have to restart it at a later time. If you kill Mario at the first encounter, the mission will fail. However, Eva and Mario will respawn at the same location several game days later, allowing you to complete the mission.
  • โ—†If you pull a gun in the church, the nun may get up and walk away and you will fail the mission.
  • โ—†If you aim a weapon at (or kill) Mario in Sepulcro before the cutscene occurs, the mission will fail and you will have to restart it at a later time.
  • โ—†If you frighten Eva after buying her freedom (i.e. firing your weapon anywhere) you will fail the mission.
  • โ—†Similar to "Water and Honesty" you get your money back, and more, at the end of the mission (only if you pay Clyde Evans).
  • โ—†The name of the cemetery in which you confront Mario is called El Sepulcro, a possible reference to Los Sepulcros, the cemetery featured in another Rockstar game, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
