Maybelle Elizabeth Colter, known as Black Belle, is an outlaw and former member of the Colter Tobin Gang. After robbing a place in Rhodes, she gains a reputation as a gunslinger and becomes the gang's only survivor. She has been married to six men without divorcing any of them, and her bounty is said to exceed Landon Ricketts'. She is also associated with Jim "Boy" Calloway, though she has little respect for his reputation.
Arthur Morgan seeks Black Belle at Canebreak Manor in Bluewater Marsh while gathering accounts for Theodore Levin's book on Calloway. Belle mistakes Arthur for a bounty hunter, but agrees to speak after a new posse of hunters is dealt with. She has Arthur trigger explosives beneath one hunter who approaches with her wanted poster, then joins him in defending the manor against the rest, including a man operating a machine gun. Afterwards, Belle calls Calloway a coward who fled fights and invented newspaper stories about himself. Arthur photographs her posing with her rifle. She rides away from Canebreak Manor.
In Red Dead Online, Black Belle is at Old Harry Fen in Scarlett Meadows. She first threatens the escaped Sisika Penitentiary prisoner with dynamite, then realizes they are looking for work rather than hunting her. She sends them to save members of her gang from hanging in Rhodes, promising payment for their return. After this, she remains at Old Harry Fen and offers further criminal work, including jailbreaks, wagon thefts, killings, destruction jobs and coach holdups.
Trivia
- โBlack Belle was likely based on famed outlaw Belle Starr, nicknamed "The Bandit Queen" while active in Oklahoma and Missouri. Her attire also heavily resembles the clothing Starr was known to wear. She also shares traits with other famous western figures, such as sharpshooter Annie Oakley and frontierswoman Calamity Jane.
- โIronically, despite Black Belle surviving her encounter with the player while her fellow gunslingers were shot dead, Starr was murdered in 1889.
- โBlack Belle is the only legendary gunslinger who the player meets that will be willingly interviewed by the player. As a result, she does not have a unique weapon that the player can acquire. She's also the only gunslinger in the mission to survive the events.
- โShe is also the only gunslinger to not use a unique sidearm in "The Noblest of Men, and a Woman", instead using a standard black and gold Lancaster Repeater. It can be dropped by her if one of the bounty hunters manages to reach Black Belle and melee her into dropping it. Since it is not a unique weapon, it does not have a Compendium page.
- โA random camper claims to have met her in the city of Tucson, Arizona. There, Black Belle allegedly shared an anecdote about one of her many confrontations with bounty hunters. The camper also makes a comment on Belle's status as a celebrity amongst other gunslingers of the American West, even mentioning the cigarette card depicting Black Belle at one point in the conversation.
- โDuring her mission, the poster held up by one of the bounty hunters actually depicts a cut bounty target named Doc Wormwood. An otherwise unused graphic for her actual poster can be found in the Bounty Hunter camp theme in Red Dead Online; with it having been marked out in red.
- โFollowing Black Belle's departure, the player can enter her now empty home. The interior is extremely messy, and there are some objects like canned goods which the player can take.
