In 1899, Arthur Morgan is led by a flock of birds to a cave east of Fairvale Shanty, in Grizzlies East, Ambarino. The entrance is sealed off, and the man inside remains unseen. He identifies himself only through his voice, explaining that his great size keeps him apart from others. Lonely in the cave, he asks Arthur to be his friend.
When Arthur returns, the unseen Giant asks whether he has been missed. He speaks of wanting a wife, but says women have treated him cruelly. He remains behind the blocked entrance, offering no way into the cave and no view of himself. His brief conversations leave Arthur with only the voice of a solitary man living in the mountains.
In 1907, John Marston can again hear the Giant from the same cave near Fairvale Shanty. The Giant says he prefers to stay anonymous, then acknowledges the joke in that choice and shows that he has a sense of humor. He is still never seen, concealed beyond the closed cave entrance in Grizzlies East.
On a later visit, the Giant tells John not to fear him. He asks whether the world outside is truly as bad as people say. The conversation ends with him still hidden in his cave east of Fairvale Shanty, alone in Ambarino.

- โAn invisible NPC voicing the giant in-game can be killed by the player.
- โThe giant can only be encountered if the player has studied at least 30 different species of animals. The "Studied" status of an animal can be found in the โAnimalsโ section of the Compendium.
- โCut audio files suggest the Giant was originally meant to be physically encountered by the player, rather than being obscured behind a boulder as seen in the final game.
- โCut dialogue states that he had recently escaped from a circus.
- โA model and textures exist in the files for the Giant with appearances for 1899 and 1907, though it lacks textures for his shirt and torso as well as lacking models for his legs and eyes.
- โHis cut model's likeness seems to be based on the real world Rondo Hatton, an American horror film actor who suffered from Acromegaly.
