In 1899, Arthur Morgan encounters Reverend Peter Fotheringham preaching in Strawberry, in Big Valley, West Elizabeth. Fotheringham addresses people passing through the town and, when Arthur approaches him, asks whether he wants to be "saved". Their exchange is brief. Arthur can meet the reverend only once during the events of that year.
By 1907, John Marston can again find Fotheringham working as a reverend in Strawberry. The preacher has become aware that his sermons bore the townspeople and that they pay him little attention. He talks bitterly about his marriage, warning John against marrying a cold woman like his unnamed wife. He also admits that he is losing his will to live.
After "American Venom", Fotheringham remains in Strawberry as the town's preacher. If Arthur or John has already spoken with him in the relevant encounter, he can still be seen there as a special character, but he offers no further conversation. He stays on the streets of Strawberry, preaching to people who mostly ignore him.

- โHis name is revealed in the credits and spoken by himself, but is only "Reverend" in the captions.
- โIf the player declines his help, he will reveal that everyone runs away from him, and that his wife was the one making him do the preaching, saying "she's not a nice woman".
