Soothsayer

In 1899, Arthur Morgan encounters the Soothsayer in the swamps of Lemoyne. A blind American fortune teller, she wanders the country around Bayou Nwa and Bluewater Marsh. She stops Arthur and asks him for $2 before offering a reading. Her words concern both events still to come in the story and qualities she sees in Arthur himself.

The Soothsayer's predictions are cryptic rather than direct, and each meeting gives Arthur another fragment of her view of his future. He can find her on ten occasions during the 1899 story, at different points around the marshland. Her manner and trade resemble those of Blind Man Cassidy, another blind figure who offers readings to travelers, though the Soothsayer charges more for hers.

In 1907, the perspective moves to John Marston. John can also meet the Soothsayer as he travels through Bayou Nwa and Bluewater Marsh in Lemoyne. She gives him further cryptic readings in the same manner as she did Arthur. She appears five times during John's part of the story, remaining a wandering fortune teller in the swamps.
