War Horse

War Horse is a horse class in Red Dead Redemption 2, built around durability rather than quick acceleration. It is listed with a Silver dapple black coat and a speed rating of 65. War Horses have lower speed and acceleration than many other horse classes, but their health and stamina are better than average. The game uses them as hardy mounts that can endure falls and fights more readily than faster horses.

An Ultimate Edition pre-order bonus, or a separately obtained code, makes an Iron Grey Roan Ardennes available after Arthur Morgan reaches Chapter 2 and accompanies Hosea Matthews in "Exit Pursued by a Bruised Ego." At the Valentine stable, this Ardennes appears in the stock and can be taken without charge. It is a War Horse with the class's stronger health and stamina.

War Horses also appear through stable stock. Scarlett Meadows Stable sells an Ardennes, while Strawberry Stable and Van Horn Stable sell Andalusians. A Hungarian Half-bred can be found and tamed in Northern Blackwater or west of Armadillo, although wild examples may have lower attributes than stable horses. After the Epilogue, a newspaper unlocks the cheat phrase "You are a beast built for war.", which spawns a War Horse.
