With renewed strength and the weather finally stable, the gang rides down from the mountains to set up camp at Horseshoe Overlook.

Player notes

The Van der Linde gang leaves Colter as the weather clears and heads east for a new camp at Horseshoe Overlook. Arthur rides in a wagon with Hosea while the others travel alongside them in wagons and on horseback, carrying the camp's people and supplies out of the mountains.

After the caravan crosses a stream, a wheel comes loose from Arthur and Hosea's wagon. Charles, travelling with Bill, remains behind to help them lift the wagon and refit it. While they work, Hosea notices several Native Americans watching from a cliff above the trail. The observers do not approach, and the repaired wagon sets off again.

Arthur, Hosea and Charles continue through The Heartlands. During the journey, Charles speaks of what the army has done to the Native Americans. Near Horseshoe Overlook, Javier joins Arthur's wagon for the final stretch of the ride.

The caravan reaches Horseshoe Overlook in New Hanover, where the gang begins making camp. Dutch tells everyone to conceal their past and claim that a factory closure in the north left them out of work. The gang settles at the overlook as Chapter 1 ends.

Trivia

  • โ—†After this mission is complete, Lenny and Micah will be at camp and available for interactions. If the player saves and reloads, or Arthur leaves camp, they will be gone and Grimshaw notifies Arthur that they have been sent scouting out west. Lenny will not return to camp until "A Quiet Time" and Micah, despite being freed in "Blessed are the Meek?", will not return until after "An American Pastoral Scene" is completed.
  • โ—†Strauss is the only person at camp, besides Uncle due to being asleep, to not have unique dialogue following this mission.
  • โ—†After this mission is complete, Reverend Swanson, Charles, Javier and Bill will be missing from camp. Bill will not return until after "Americans at Rest" is completed. Reverend Swanson will return to camp during "Who is Not Without Sin", and Charles and Javier return to camp after "The First Shall Be Last" is complete.
  • โ—†After this mission is complete, Uncle will be unavailable for interactions except to disturb him to start "Polite Society, Valentine Style".
  • โ—†After this mission is complete, Karen, Tilly and Mary-Beth may make comments during interactions with Arthur about being bored until "Polite Society, Valentine Style" is completed. Hosea may also get annoyed with Arthur and tell him to go bother Uncle.
  • โ—†The name of this mission may be a reference to the song "Homeward Bound" by Simon & Garfunkel.
  • โ—†Arthur will make a two page Journal entry after this mission is complete.
  • โ—†The player can get either Arthur's unique closed winter coat on patch 1.00 or Arthur without suspenders on the latest patch.
  • โ—†At the beginning of the mission, you can look at the other wagons using Photo Mode or mods. One of the wagons is almost empty except for the injured John Marston and Abigail Roberts, who is tending to him. In contrast, tied up Kieran Duffy is unceremoniously thrown among various packed camp supplies.
