• ◆The mission title is a reference to the song with the same name, written by Sonny Curtis and popularized by The Bobby Fuller Four and The Clash.
• ◆The mission is heavily inspired by the American television drama series CHiPs, following the lives of two motorcycle police officers of the California Highway Patrol. The soundtrack that plays during I Fought the Law is also internally named " alc_car_steal_1_chips ", further supporting this reference.
• ◆The cutscene in which Franklin calls Michael to inform them that they are coming through Grapeseed is a reference to the Reuniting the Families mission in GTA San Andreas, as Michael and Trevor throw their half-eaten donuts to the ground and begin the chase on police bikes. The same happens in Reuniting the Families, in which two motor officers on standby are made aware of Carl's group escaping, they do the same and begin chasing.
• ◆Inside Hayes Autos where the characters deliver the stolen cars for Weston, there is a wall that has a list of target cars written on it that only shows up under UV light, likely a reference to Gone in 60 Seconds.
• ◆This mission can be triggered by any protagonist; starting the mission as Michael or Trevor will remove the entire introduction between Devin and Franklin.
• ◆It is possible to obtain Devin's black Adder, Molly's gray Felon, and the red F620 before the mission once it becomes available. Firing shots at or around the construction site will cause Devin and Molly to flee, giving the player access to all three vehicles. The "D" mission icon will disappear from the map, making the mission temporarily unavailable, and the player may have to evade a one-star wanted level as well. Once the player has driven away far enough and lost the wanted level if attained, the mission icon will return to the map, making it available once again, and Devin, Molly, and the vehicles will have respawned. This can be repeated infinitely until the mission is complete.
• ◆The F620 used to pursue in the mission was coloured white in the second trailer, green in various pre-release screenshots (and with different rims), and is red in both the gameplay trailer and the final game.
• ◆The Police Bike's siren is different in the enhanced edition.
• ◆After the race has begun, scripted traffic will spawn. It mainly consists of the same car models: Asteropes, Minivans, Mules and Emperors. After switching to Michael, Journeys and Surfers will spawn as well.
• ◆The driver's license that Michael checks during the cutscene is actually a reused copy of his forged janitor ID card used in the covert approach of The Bureau Raid.
• ◆According to the missions.xml file, Sebastian was originally meant to be thrown off the Cassidy Creek Bridge. A remnant of this can be seen in a Bleeter post made by Henry Smithe the 4th after the mission, as a result of a developer oversight.
• ◆After collecting the cars, either Michael, Trevor, or Franklin will call Molly at the number 346-555-0174, depending on which protagonist the character chose. If the players dials this number once the phone call has ended, they will be put through to Cletus Ewing's voicemail. The reason for this is unknown.
• ◆In the original version, once the cars have been retrieved, the selected character's voice will match the radio transmission voices with the other two protagonists. However, in the enhanced edition, the selected character's voice will sound the way it does in normal gameplay instead. The radio voices of the other two protagonists, however, will be the same as they were in the original version.
• ◆On the way back to Los Santos, Franklin will make a reference to Simeon Yetarian, explaining that "boostin' cars and racing 'em" is exactly what Simeon had Franklin do before he met Michael. He also says that if Michael didn't have Franklin fired from his repo job, this is exactly what he and Lamar would still be doing and claims Michael put Franklin where he'd be at anyway.
• ◆It is possible to keep the cars once they have been retrieved. Drive to Los Santos Customs or Beeker's Garage, and purchase a vehicle modification. Then, exit the garage and continue to Hayes Autos like normal. Once the mission is finished, the car the player modified can be retrieved from the impound garage at Mission Row Police Station for $250. The orange Entity XF will be restricted to Michael, the blue Cheetah will be restricted to Trevor, and the red F620 will be restricted to Franklin.
• ◆After completing this mission (and those that follow in this strand), the collected vehicles can be found, covered up, at Hayes Auto, though they cannot be obtained.
