La Combat MG es una ametralladora totalmente automática, clasificada a la vez como ametralladora ligera y ametralladora de propósito general. Antes se conocía como M249 y Advanced MG, y su modelo de Grand Theft Auto V toma como base una variante de mayor calibre de la M249. Combina un adaptador de M249 y un cañón muy corto con un guardamanos ficticio y una culata característica. En vez de bípode plegable, lleva raíles Picatinny para accesorios.

Ammu-Nation vende la Combat MG por $7,550 tras Blitz Play. También puede recogerse una en el lugar donde cae el avión de carga de Merryweather Security, en el Alamo Sea, después de Minor Turbulence. Los protagonistas la llevan en varios golpes: Michael De Santa la usa en Blitz Play y The Paleto Score, Trevor Philips la porta en The Paleto Score, y Franklin Clinton la recibe en el enfoque offshore de The Merryweather Heist y el enfoque obvious de The Big Score. Trevor también la emplea durante The Third Way.

Con daño de 32, cadencia de 65, precisión de 45, alcance de 60 y un cargador de 70 proyectiles, la Combat MG es un arma automática de uso general. Supera en conjunto a las SMG, la Assault Rifle y la MG, y dispara más lejos que la Carbine Rifle a cambio de precisión. Tiene menos retroceso que la MG, aunque su manejo hace más lenta la recarga y limita la movilidad. Los pasajeros pueden usarla desde vehículos espaciosos, pero su cadencia desde la cadera baja y no admite silenciador.

Curiosidades

◆Like the Micro SMG and the MG, attaching a scope to the weapon will cause the player character to fire it from the shoulder rather than the hip.
◆The Combat MG is often preferred by the three protagonists, as they will start with it on every loaded game and if the player is hanging out with the other two protagonists, they will wield it if provoked and when on foot or while riding a helicopter.
◆There is a beta render of the Combat MG in the game files, which looked similar to the The Ballad of Gay Tony rendition of the weapon, with design cues from the Mark 46, a lightweight variant of the M249. It also seems to have a shorter barrel.
◆In the enhanced version, the HUD icon depicts the weapon with the 200-round box magazine instead of the standard 100-round one.
◆Under the belt feed tray of the weapon there is an adaptor for STANAG box magazines, which in reality is available to the original M249, but not to the Mk 48, nor the Mk 46.
◆If the Combat MG is discharged (fired) while in stealth mode, it'll have a slightly lower firerate.
