En 1898, Joe es un forajido que opera desde una cabaña de Osman Grove, en Roanoke Ridge. Cuando el protagonista de Red Dead Online entra sin avisar, Joe le apunta con un arma, pero decide que ha ido en busca de trabajo. Pregunta si conoce a Micah Bell, Cleet o Samson Finch, relata que mató a un hombre al que apenas conocía y contrata al protagonista para acabar con un rival y sus cómplices. Más tarde ofrece otros asesinatos, robos y asaltos a diligencias desde la cabaña. También se une a la red criminal de Guido Martelli y proporciona encargos en Blood Money.
En 1899, Micah lleva a Joe y Cleet al robo de un tren del Ejército de Estados Unidos que realiza la banda de Van der Linde. Joe apenas interviene en el atraco, pero permanece junto a Micah cuando Arthur Morgan lo enfrenta en Beaver Hollow por traicionar a la banda. Joe se pone del lado de Micah cuando Arthur y John Marston encaran a los hombres reunidos contra ellos. Los Pinkerton irrumpen en el campamento antes de que nadie dispare y obligan a todos a huir. Joe cabalga con Dutch, Micah y Cleet tras Arthur y John, que se pierden entre el bosque.
Tras la disolución de la banda de Van der Linde, Joe y Cleet permanecen con Micah y pasan a formar parte de su nueva banda. En 1907, John, Sadie Adler y Charles Smith suben Mount Hagen después de saber que Micah se encuentra allí. Joe y otros dos miembros de la banda se enfrentan a John en el camino de montaña. John mata a Joe y a los otros dos durante el tiroteo, y luego sigue avanzando hacia Micah.
Curiosidades
- ◆Joe has a tattoo on his chest that reads "tout me fait rire", a French phrase which translates to "Everything makes me laugh". Cleet has a tattoo in the same area, although it is partially obscured by his neckerchief.
- ◆If Joe is antagonized enough in camp, he will shove Arthur, just like Dutch, Micah and Cleet.
- ◆Joe never speaks during a cutscene in the single player campaign; he shares this distinction with Cleet. While Cleet does speak several times during "Our Best Selves" and "American Venom", Joe only has a few lines during his final appearance. One of them can be heard saying "Yup" during the opening cutscene of "Red Dead Redemption", although neither man's mouth can be seen moving. Both can also be interacted with around camp, between the missions "My Last Boy" and "Our Best Selves," although they never move past the table near Dutch's tent. They only sit at the table, lay on their nearby bedrolls or occasionally go to the mouth of the cave. During these interactions, Arthur notes that he doesn't talk much.
- ◆However, he does speak during his stranger activity in Red Dead Online. This interaction sees him speaking much more, often repeating himself. Also, he, Sadie Adler, Josiah Trelawny and Sean MacGuire are the only members to appear in the game, although Joe and Sadie are the only two to have not been involved with the gang at the time, having become members a year after the events of Red Dead Online.
- ◆Although Joe is affiliated with Guido Martelli, he expresses distain for Italians to the Red Dead Online protagonist.
- ◆Joe's facial features seem to have been based on a real-life person that appeared in the book titled "Face", which is a collection of portraits taken by photographer, Bruce Gilden, who is best known for his candid close-up photographs of people.
