Avant 1899, Cleet devient l'un des associés de Micah Bell, travaillant aux côtés de Joe comme homme de main engagé. En 1899, il apparaît à Beaver Hollow, dans Roanoke Ridge, où Arthur Morgan peut le remarquer aux abords du camp du gang Van der Linde avant d'apprendre son nom. Micah présente ensuite officiellement Cleet et Joe au gang durant "My Last Boy", affirmant avoir besoin d'eux pour les ennuis à venir.
Cleet participe au dernier braquage de train du gang et combat l'armée aux côtés d'Arthur et Sadie Adler lorsque l'attaque commence. Après qu'Arthur a révélé que Micah était l'informateur, Cleet prend le parti de Dutch van der Linde et de Micah lors de la confrontation au camp, braquant son arme sur Arthur et John Marston. Les Pinkerton prennent Beaver Hollow d'assaut, et Cleet s'enfuit avec Dutch, Micah et Joe. Après la dissolution du gang, il reste avec le nouveau groupe de Micah.
En 1907, Cleet s'est brouillé avec Micah. Il tente d'empêcher Micah de tuer une petite fille durant une attaque contre une famille et échappe de peu à la mort lorsque Micah se retourne contre lui. Il se cache à Strawberry, mais John, Sadie et Charles Smith l'y trouvent en cherchant Micah. Sadie capture Cleet après sa fuite, et John le force à révéler que Micah se trouve à Mount Hagen. Cleet implore leur pitié, mais meurt à la potence de Strawberry, soit pendu par John, soit abattu par Sadie.

- ◆Cleet is voiced by P.J. Sosko, who also portrays Walton Lowe in Red Dead Redemption, as well as Gerald McReary, a character in Grand Theft Auto 4, another Rockstar game.
- ◆Cleet never speaks during a cutscene; he shares this distinction with Joe, although unlike him, Cleet has several lines in "Our Best Selves" and "American Venom". One of them can be heard saying "Yup" during the opening cutscene of "Red Dead Redemption", although neither man's mouth can be seen moving. Both can also be interacted with around camp, between the missions "My Last Boy" and "Our Best Selves", although they never move past the table near Dutch's tent. They only sit at the table, lay on their nearby bedrolls or occasionally go to the mouth of the cave.
- ◆Although partially obscured by his neckerchief, it can be observed that Cleet has a tattoo on his chest like Joe. Cleet's tattoos depict a horned goat and a mermaid holding an anchor.
- ◆If the player chooses to not do anything when presented with the choice to kill or spare Cleet, after a while, Sadie will shoot him as if the player had chosen to spare.
- ◆Cleet is one of the few story-relevant characters to share a name with another story-relevant character. Cleet is also the name of the street urchin who steals Arthur's satchel in the quest "The Joys Of Civilization" at the start of Chapter 4.
- ◆If Cleet is antagonised enough, he will shove Arthur, just like Micah, Dutch and Joe.
- ◆Cleet is briefly mentioned by Joe in Red Dead Online.
- ◆Cleet's hat looks remarkably similar to the one worn by Kieran, and the hat Uncle rewards John in the Epilogue on completion of his request mission.
- ◆Cleet is one of the few enemies alongside Bill and Javier, whom John can choose to spare or kill in the Red Dead Redemption franchise. Moreover, if he is spared like Bill and Javier—who were killed by Abraham Reyes and presumably by hanging, respectively—he will be killed by someone else, in Cleet's case Sadie.
