L'Appaloosa est un petit cheval de travail doté d'une maniabilité Standard dans Red Dead Redemption 2. Sa constitution compacte et ses robes tachetées ou mouchetées distinguent la race. Le modèle en jeu s'inspire de l'Appaloosa moderne, un type à la morphologie proche du Quarter Horse avec des marques d'Appaloosa. À l'époque du jeu, la race aurait davantage ressemblé à un petit Indian Pony nerveux, plus proche dans sa forme du Nokota.
Les Appaloosas ont une grande endurance, une santé et une vitesse moyennes, ainsi qu'une accélération inférieure à celle des autres chevaux. Leur maniabilité leur confère une agilité et une réactivité modérées. Ils conviennent au travail de ranch. Les robes communes se rencontrent dans les troupeaux sauvages et peuvent être montées par des hommes de loi, tandis que la plus rare robe Few Spotted apparaît également à l'état sauvage. Des Appaloosas peuvent se trouver dans les camps de PNJ, où ils peuvent être pris.
Les robes Leopard et Brown Leopard sont vendues dans les écuries, la Leopard étant aussi disponible durant "No, No and Thrice, No." La Scarred Leopard apparaît lors de rencontres aléatoires avec les Murfree Brood. Taima de Charles Smith, une Gray Snowcap Spotted Appaloosa, transporte Arthur Morgan dans "Outlaws from the West." Nell IV d'Uncle, identifiée en jeu comme une Appaloosa, aide à faire tomber la vieille cabane de Beecher's Hope dans "Home Improvement for Beginners."
Anecdotes
- ◆Players searching for the Few Spotted should consider taming either a Blanket or a Leopard Blanket and ride to the Appaloosa spawn areas. As horses of the breed variant currently being ridden will not spawn, the chance of finding a Few Spotted is increased as only that and the other wild variety can spawn in such circumstances.
- ◆William has a Blanket Appaloosa that you can steal from him, but doing this will result in a loss of honor.
- ◆NPC camps can also spawn a common Appaloosa, but this is rare.
- ◆A Leopard Appaloosa can be stolen during the first mission of "The Ties That Bind Us". In where the player is taking down bounty posters in the town of Rhodes, a man will be hostile, fighting for one of the posters. He will be riding a Leopard Appaloosa that can be stolen and stabled.
- ◆The Leopard Appaloosa Arthur rides during the mission "No, No and Thrice, No" can be kept with no loss of honor.
- ◆The Scarred Blanket is mistakenly classed as a riding horse.
- ◆A Leopard Blanket can be stolen during a random encounter with the Lemoyne Raiders.
- ◆The in-game Appaloosa model appears to be based on the modern-day Appaloosa, which has been essentially diluted into a Quarter Horse with Appaloosa markings. The Appaloosa in Redemption 2s historic setting would have been a small and wiry Indian Pony, more similar in form to the Nokota.
- ◆The Brown Leopard Appaloosa is a coppery-colored Near-Leopard Appaloosa who has a sun-bleached white mane and tail. The unique coloring can very likely be attributed to bronzing/color shifting in Appaloosas, making the base color most probably chestnut or black. The brown fur on his muzzle incorrectly covers the entire muzzle including the inner nose and the lips.
- ◆The Blanket Appaloosa is a chestnut with four socks and a blaze. Curiously, the hooves are a solid dark brown color which is considerably rare.
- ◆The Few Spotted Appaloosa is primarily white colored with a few black spots. The mane and tail is not sun-bleached.
- ◆Although she is called a "Gray Snowcap Spotted Appaloosa", the more correct term for Taima's color and markings would be a Black Semi/Near Leopard (or "Spotted Blanket") with the white ticking making her look gray; although this odd color choice is most similar to that of a blue roan despite this being out of the question because of her face. Her mane and tail is black, albeit extensively sun-bleached.
- ◆The Leopard Blanket Appaloosa is a bay sharing the same markings as the Gray Snowcap Spotted Appaloosa, albeit with the addition of a star.
- ◆The Leopard Appaloosa is primarily white with many large black spots across the entire body; the mane and tail does not show any signs of sun-bleaching.
- ◆The Scarred Blanket carries identical markings to the Blanket Appaloosa, albeit with severe damage throughout the entire body and lost fur on the stomach area revealing the skin underneath.
- ◆The Few Spot Buckskin appears to have a chestnut base, and is the only horse in Story Mode to feature a mustache. While somewhat similar looking horses exist, this exact coloring appears to be unrealistic.
- ◆While the Black Snowflake Appaloosa's "snowflake" label is not completely out of the question, the markings appear to have been based off birdcatcher spots.
