L'Ardennes est une grande race de cheval de guerre dans Red Dead Redemption 2, basée sur des chevaux originaires de la région des Ardennes, en France, en Belgique et au Luxembourg. Elle compte parmi les races les plus lourdes du jeu. Sa constitution se caractérise par un corps massif, une large tête et d'épais fanons autour du bas des jambes.
Les chevaux Ardennes affichent une santé et une endurance élevées pour leur catégorie, tandis que leur vitesse et leur accélération sont faibles ou moyennes. Leur maniabilité standard leur confère une agilité et une réactivité modérées malgré leur poids et leur taille. Ils sont conçus comme des chevaux de guerre, l'endurance et la robustesse primant sur la rapidité des déplacements.
L'Ardennes ordinaire existe dans les robes Strawberry Roan et Bay Roan, certaines robes pouvant être achetées. L'Iron Grey Roan est une variante spéciale. Bill Williamson monte le seul Ardennes Brown Roan, Brown Jack, tout au long de 1899. Un Ardennes War Horse unique est disponible à l'écurie pour les personnes ayant précommandé Red Dead Redemption 2, et possède les mêmes statistiques que le Strawberry Roan.

- ◆A Bay Roan can be obtained for free as bounty hunters often spawn with them.
- ◆A Strawberry Roan can be obtained earlier for free by using an exploit with the random encounter with the drunk driver near Lone Mule Stead.
- ◆This Strawberry Roan is always a female.
- ◆This breed’s voice clips are lower pitched than other breeds. They used to be the only horse in the game to have this until the Breton released. They are still currently the only story mode horse to have this.
- ◆Once stabled, the War Horse cannot be sold. If the player bonds with two horses while the horse is not in the stable, or the horse dies, the player will no longer have ownership of the War Horse and they will have to buy the horse again from the stable.
- ◆All Ardennes including the War Horse can be spawned (even in the Standard Edition of the game) via the cheat code "You are a beast built for war" or "You want something new". The player can save all of them except for the Brown Roan using a glitch that involves the mission "Angelo Bronte, A Man of Honor".
- ◆The Strawberry Roan is a chestnut base roan featuring a star and reverse dappling.
- ◆The Bay Roan is a silver bay with white hair that has not been bleached by the sun, in addition to a star and stripe.
- ◆The Iron Grey Roan is in actuality a blue roan featuring the same face marking as the Bay Roan.
- ◆The Brown Roan is a silver bay roan featuring reverse dappling. It is unclear what the light patches of fur seen on the body represent, though it may be the result of an uneven distribution of the sooty gene.
