Arthur encontra Dutch, Eagle Flies e guerreiros Wapiti no alto de um penhasco em Cumberland Forest. Dutch explica a emboscada contra uma patrulha do exército: dinamites derrubarão árvores sobre a estrada do vale, prendendo os soldados para que os Wapiti os humilhem e os mandem embora. Arthur protesta, mas ajuda Dutch a passar os fios entre o detonador e as cargas. Dutch admite que o ataque desviará a atenção do governo da gangue Van der Linde para os Wapiti, algo que Arthur condena.
A patrulha entra no vale e as árvores caem ao redor dela. Dutch manda os soldados encurralados se renderem, mas reforços chegam atirando. Arthur, Dutch e os Wapiti enfrentam os dois grupos. Enquanto revistam os mortos, um canhão anuncia outro ataque. Arthur alcança o canhão, mata o operador e ajuda a eliminar os soldados. Eagle Flies parte em busca do ferido Paytah, enquanto Arthur confronta Dutch pelo que fizeram.
Mais tropas vêm de Fort Wallace, e Arthur e Dutch precisam deixar Eagle Flies para trás e fugir a cavalo. Eles entram numa passagem rochosa, soltam os cavalos quando o caminho se estreita e continuam a pé, combatendo os perseguidores. Uma ponte quebrada os encurrala acima do Dakota River. Eles se rendem, recuam até a beira do penhasco sob a mira dos soldados, saltam no rio e nadam até a margem. Dutch supõe que Eagle Flies foi capturado ou morto e sai para pedir que Charles prepare um resgate.
Curiosidades
- ◆Before Arthur and Dutch jump down the river, Dutch tells the captain of how nature or gravity can’t be beaten on the cliffside. This is a foreshadowing of Dutch's last words in Red Dead Redemption before taking his own life by falling off of a cliff.
- ◆The moment when Dutch and Arthur jump off the cliff is an homage to the famous scene of the film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969), in which the titular protagonists likewise jump off a cliff into a river in order to escape authorities. Frame for frame, the camera angle and lighting of the jumps are nearly identical.
- ◆If the player neglects to detonate the explosives at the right time, Dutch will do it instead.
- ◆When Arthur is looting the corpses of the fallen soldiers, he mentions to Dutch that one of them is "...some poor fool from New Jersey". In real life, Arthur's actor Roger Clark was born in New Jersey.
- ◆If the player attempts to kill all soldiers that are holding Arthur and Dutch at gunpoint, the camera's view will start spinning around and this will result in a one-hit-kill from an invincible sniper on a cliff. The only way to take out the sniper is to make them fall off the cliff.
