Eagle Flies
In order to draw attention away from the gang and onto the Natives, Dutch convinces Eagle Flies to ambush an army patrol.

Arthur se reúne con Dutch, Eagle Flies y guerreros Wapiti en lo alto de un risco de Cumberland Forest. Dutch expone una emboscada contra una patrulla militar: la dinamita derribará árboles sobre el camino del valle y dejará atrapados a los soldados, para que los Wapiti los avergüencen y los expulsen. Arthur se opone, aunque ayuda a Dutch a tender los cables entre el detonador y las cargas. Dutch reconoce que el ataque apartará la atención del gobierno de la banda Van der Linde y la dirigirá hacia los Wapiti, algo que Arthur reprueba.
La patrulla llega al valle y los árboles caen a su alrededor. Dutch exige la rendición de los soldados atrapados, pero unos refuerzos aparecen y abren fuego. Arthur, Dutch y los Wapiti luchan contra ambos grupos. Mientras registran los cuerpos, el disparo de un cañón anuncia otro asalto. Arthur alcanza el cañón, mata a su operador y ayuda a despejar la zona. Eagle Flies va a buscar al herido Paytah, y Arthur encara a Dutch por lo que han hecho.
Llegan más tropas desde Fort Wallace, por lo que Arthur y Dutch dejan atrás a Eagle Flies y escapan a caballo. Entran en un paso rocoso, sueltan los caballos cuando el sendero se estrecha y siguen a pie mientras se defienden de los perseguidores. Un puente roto los deja acorralados sobre el Dakota River. Se rinden, retroceden hasta el borde del risco vigilados por los soldados, saltan al río y nadan hasta la orilla. Dutch cree que Eagle Flies ha sido capturado o asesinado y parte para que Charles prepare un rescate.
Curiosidades
- ◆Before Arthur and Dutch jump down the river, Dutch tells the captain of how nature or gravity can’t be beaten on the cliffside. This is a foreshadowing of Dutch's last words in Red Dead Redemption before taking his own life by falling off of a cliff.
- ◆The moment when Dutch and Arthur jump off the cliff is an homage to the famous scene of the film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969), in which the titular protagonists likewise jump off a cliff into a river in order to escape authorities. Frame for frame, the camera angle and lighting of the jumps are nearly identical.
- ◆If the player neglects to detonate the explosives at the right time, Dutch will do it instead.
- ◆When Arthur is looting the corpses of the fallen soldiers, he mentions to Dutch that one of them is "...some poor fool from New Jersey". In real life, Arthur's actor Roger Clark was born in New Jersey.
- ◆If the player attempts to kill all soldiers that are holding Arthur and Dutch at gunpoint, the camera's view will start spinning around and this will result in a one-hit-kill from an invincible sniper on a cliff. The only way to take out the sniper is to make them fall off the cliff.
