Em Colter, Simon Pearson conta a Arthur Morgan que a comida da gangue está acabando. Grande parte dos mantimentos ficou para trás na fuga de Blackwater, e Bill Williamson e Lenny Summers voltaram da caça sem nada. Charles Smith se junta aos dois e se oferece para procurar veados com Arthur. Pearson entrega a Arthur um pouco de miúdos salgados, e Charles lhe dá um arco e flechas.

Arthur cavalga com Charles até Grizzlies West. Charles diz que queimou a mão direita durante a fuga de Blackwater e leva Arthur até uma área de neve descoberta perto de um riacho, onde há rastros de animais. Eles deixam os cavalos e se aproximam em silêncio. Arthur usa Eagle Eye para seguir o rastro de um veado, abate o animal com o arco e caça um segundo antes de acomodar as duas carcaças nos cavalos.

Na volta por Ambarino, Arthur e Charles falam sobre a fuga da gangue de Blackwater, seus inimigos e a possibilidade de achar um lugar seguro mesmo com recompensas por suas cabeças. Um urso aparece na trilha, e eles conduzem os cavalos ao redor dele em vez de enfrentá-lo. Arthur pergunta por que Charles continua na gangue. Charles responde que não quer mais viver sozinho, pois seus membros o tratam com justiça.

Arthur e Charles voltam a Colter e amarram os cavalos do lado de fora do acampamento. Eles levam os veados até Pearson, enquanto Uncle fica por perto por pouco tempo, e Charles sai para cuidar da outra carcaça. Pearson pede ajuda a Arthur para preparar a carne. Arthur esfola o veado para ele na cozinha do acampamento.

Curiosidades

  • ◆This mission unlocks Eagle Eye. Even so, the player does not actually need to use it to find the first deer as they can just follow its footprints in the snow.
  • ◆During the ride on the way to hunt deer, Charles tells Arthur that he mistakenly burned his right hand while escaping from Blackwater, which is a reference to Red Harlow, as Red was also part Native American and burned the same hand in the beginning of his story.
  • ◆It is possible for Arthur's honor to decrease if the player only wounds a deer and allows it to bleed out, rather than put it out of its misery.
  • ◆Arthur may use another weapon instead of the bow to kill the deer and not fail the mission, but Charles will get upset.
  • ◆Rarely, a glitch can occur if the player takes too long to grab the bow off their horse that results in Charles' AI becoming frozen, and forcing the player to restart the mission.
  • ◆If "Old Friends" was completed before this mission, Arthur will mention the attack on the O'Driscolls' camp and talk about Kieran Duffy while riding with Charles.
  • ◆It is impossible to kill the bear during this mission, all the player can do is to scare it off.
  • ◆When Arthur and Charles see the bear, Arthur can ask Charles if they should kill it for its meat. Charles will say that the deer are enough and they won't be able to carry both.
  • ◆If the player shoots at the bear, Charles will express his frustrations at his remarks about the bear being ignored.
  • ◆If this mission is completed after "Old Friends", it will automatically continue into the fifth mission of Chapter 1, "Who the Hell is Leviticus Cornwall?".
  • ◆If the mission is completed before Old Friends, the player can encounter Hosea at the butcher's table and have a conversation with him.
  • ◆Depending on whether this mission was completed before or after "Old Friends", Arthur and Charles will have different dialogue about how they've picked up more mouths to feed. If after, Arthur will jokingly say they can feed Kieran the salted offal Pearson gave them at the start of the mission.
  • ◆If the mission is played after "Old Friends", the player can use Dead Eye to kill the deer to ensure clean kills for Gold Medal objective.
