Yumruklar, Red Dead Redemption 2'de yakın dövüş için kullanılan silahsız seçenektir. Ateşli silaha ya da cephaneye başvurmadan yumruk, tekme ve diğer yakın dövüş hamleleriyle dövüşmeyi sağlar. Cephane azaldığında veya dikkat çekmek sorun yaratacağında işe yarar. Soygun ve gözdağı gibi, birini öldürmeden etkisiz hale getirmek gereken durumlara da uygundur.
Yakın mesafede oyuncu rakibini teslim olana kadar dövebilir ya da onu kavrayıp vurmaya devam edebilir. Kavranan kişi yere devrilebilir veya yeniden dik konuma çekilebilir. Başka bir silah kuşanılmışken bu tutuş kullanılamaz. Bir pencerenin ya da masanın yanında yapılan kavrama, hedefi pencereden dışarı atmak veya mobilyaya çarpmak gibi bitirici hamlelere dönüşebilir. Yumruklar, kesici yakın dövüş silahlarının öldürücülüğü yerine ölümcül olmayan kontrol sunar. Bir düşmanın arkasında çömelmek gizli etkisiz hale getirme hamlesine izin verir. Ses efektleri aksini ima etse de oyun bunu ölümcül olmayan bir yöntem sayar. Bu halde bırakılan biri kendine gelip kalıcı yorgun bir duruşla uzaklaşabilir. - ◆Animals, like dogs and chickens, can be kicked by pressing the attack button while having the fists equipped.
- ◆If crouched while the player has their fists equipped and presses the trigger, Marston will do a visually stronger punch, while some characters will do a swinging right hook or an uppercut.
- ◆In Blackwater, Marston can pick a fight with a police officer, not gain a wanted level or bounty, and have no loss in honor. But if another police officer sees the fight, the two officers will gang up on Marston, making the fight considerably harder and with more risk of being knocked out.
- ◆If the player runs up and "pushes" someone riding a horse, they will be knocked off and the horse will run away.
- ◆In most cases, punching a woman will result in them screaming and running away. Also, if the player manage to knock out a woman, an eye witness will try to report them, resulting in the player character getting you a bounty.
- ◆It is possible to kill the undead in hand to hand combat in Undead Nightmare.
- ◆If the player starts a fistfight before starting one of Bonnie's missons that shows her sitting outside her house, she will sometimes get up from her seat and fight along with the player and start to punch the other fighter. The same happens with Landon Ricketts.
- ◆If the player finds the NPCs fist-fighting in the wild and doesn't break it up, one of the NPCs will die. This is the only time an NPC can be killed with fists.
- ◆Grabbing or tackling a healthy enemy and initiating three punches would always result in a knockout. This does not apply to certain missions where the moveset is replaced.
- ◆With a gun equipped, performing a melee attack twice in quick succession also guarantees a non-lethal knockout.
- ◆Grabbing an enemy from behind while holding a handgun will trigger a body hostage stance. Due to the mechanics of the game, the player cannot actually hold an enemy as a shield for a duration that would count as being tactically viable, nor can they shoot at other NPCs while holding onto the enemy.
- ◆While kicking isn't tied to any button prompt, the player character can still perform one by pressing the attack button when an enemy is either down or standing on a lower ground compared to where the player is standing.
- ◆Tackling or tipping an enemy into a body of water shallow enough to stand on will force the player character to drown them regardless of intention or health.
- ◆Sometimes, an enemy may equip a knife in the middle of a fistfight.
