John meets Sadie in Blackwater. Sadie asks John to help her recover a bounty named Shane Finley who was taken from her by a professional rival, James Langton.

John Marston trifft Sadie Adler im Blackwater Saloon und fragt, ob sie Arbeit für ihn hat. Sadie erklärt, dass James Langton, ein rivalisierender Kopfgeldjäger, ihr Shane Finley abgenommen hat, bevor sie ihn abliefern konnte. Sie will Finley zurückholen, und John erklärt sich bereit, sie zu begleiten. Auf dem Weg nach Süden durch Hennigan's Stead bietet John Sadie einen Platz auf Beecher's Hope an. Sie sprechen auch über Dutch van der Linde, doch keiner von beiden hat etwas von ihm gehört.
Sadie führt John nach Pike's Basin, wo sie Langtons Gruppe vom Rand des Beckens aus beobachten. Nachdem sie der Gruppe hinab ins Becken gefolgt sind, kommen Sadie und John Finley und seinen Bewachern näher. Sie können sich ihnen heimlich oder offen nähern, doch Langtons Männer leisten Widerstand. Wissenswertes
- ◆Despite the entire map of New Austin being accessible during the Epilogue chapters, this is the only story mission to take place within it. Canonically, John is not meant to be too familiar with the state before the events of Red Dead Redemption.
- ◆Further reinforcing the idea that John Marston is canonically unfamiliar with the area, is Sadie's avoidance of mentioning the state by name, only referring to New Austin as "the desert down south." Additionally, when John asks where they're heading before departing the dinner, Sadie never directly answers his question throughout the entire ride. This would make John even more ignorant of where they are by the time they get there.
- ◆However, in the mission "A Quick Favor for an Old Friend" when Sadie mentions Ramón Cortez, she says that an encounter with the Del Lobo Gang, the group Cortez belongs to, in New Austin, a place they had visited before, is inevitable. This dialogue suggests that John has little knowledge of New Austin.
- ◆Shane Finley can also be brought in dead; Police Chief Oswald Dunbar will express his disappointment that he won’t see Finley hang, and seems to pay only $300, as the player receives only $150.
- ◆Even if John hasn't done any bounties prior to this mission, he will still tell Sadie that he has done some bounty work of his own. It is possible that he did so in the eight-year gap between Chapter 6 and the Epilogue.
- ◆This mission foreshadows the mission "Justice in Pike's Basin" from the original game, which has a similar setup of John scaling down Pike's Basin while gunning down multiple enemies.
