Player notes

Michael De Santa visits Lester Crest at the Darnell Bros. garment factory in La Mesa. Lester proposes a major score, first mentioning the Union Depository, but Michael wants something smaller that can still bring in a large haul. They settle on a jewelry store rather than a bank in Blaine County. Lester identifies the Vangelico Jewelry Store in Little Portola as their target, and Michael drives him from East Los Santos to Rockford Hills.

Outside Vangelico, Lester gives Michael camera glasses and sends him inside to pose as a customer. Michael speaks with the shop assistant while photographing the store's security camera, alarm keypad and ventilation outlet. Back in the car, he circles the block and finds a route through a building under renovation. He climbs from the construction site to the roof, reaches a higher position and photographs the ventilation equipment serving the jewelry store.

Michael returns to the car and drives Lester back to the Darnell Bros. factory. Inside Lester's office, Lester lays out the Vangelico plans on a board. Michael chooses whether the job will be handled with a Smart approach or a Loud one, then selects the crew needed for the robbery. Lester sees him off at the garment factory.

Trivia

  • โ—†Lester makes a direct mention to other protagonists tied to major robberies during the same conversation.
  • โ—†Lester mentions "an eastern European guy making moves in Liberty City", referencing Niko Bellic.
  • โ—†Lester later mentions that he's been working with someone else, but then dismisses them, stating "they're too unpredictable". This is a reference to the in 2013, prior to GTA Online s timeline advance.
  • โ—†When Michael and Lester discuss Michael's old crew, Michael indirectly mentions Trevor, asking Lester where he ended up, with Lester replying, "North. South. East. West. Wherever there were liquor stores to turn over and hitchhikers to disappear.", referring to Trevor's tendency to deliver hitchhikers to the Altruist Cult against their will and his meth lab which happens to be a liquor store. While Lester did not directly answer Michael's question regarding Trevor, he did know about Trevor's whereabouts, having referred the GTA Online Protagonist to him months prior.
  • โ—†Michael also asks Lester where "they buried him", highlighting Michael's initial belief that Trevor's dead (which he thought in Mr. Philips). This is the opposite of what Trevor believed at the time (he thought Michael died in North Yankton during the Prologue and is buried there).
  • โ—†If Michael is not wearing a suit and the player tries to start the mission, Lester will turn him away and tell him to change into "something nice". A notification on the top left of the screen will remind the player to do the same.
  • โ—†In the opening cutscene, Lester mentions Blaine County Savings Bank and the Union Depository, both of which are heist locations that Michael, Franklin, Trevor, and Lester himself eventually pulled off.
  • โ—†Approaching the garment factory in a different vehicle will still cause Lester to get into Michael's Tailgater. The other vehicle Michael drove will occupy one of the nearby parking spaces outside, and will be waiting when Michael and Lester return to the factory.
  • โ—†Michael sarcastically tells Lester that Martin Madrazo was "charming" when they met, even though Lester correctly tells him that Martin isn't supposed to be very nice, which was eventually proven to be true.
  • โ—†Even if Michael already has $2.5 million, he will still act as if he doesn't.
  • โ—†The building being renovated is a Max Renda retail shop.
  • โ—†In the beginning cutscene, Lester is wearing grey pants. However, in the final cutscene, he wears his basic blue jeans.
  • โ—†Michael foreshadows the non-canon Ending A when he asked Lester if Trevor ended up as a burnt body on the side of the road. Similarly, Lester foreshadows the non-canon Ending B when he tells Michael it will be his funeral for bringing in Franklin.
  • โ—†Doing the mission too early will result in the player failing to get Rickie as a heist member, which can make getting a gold medal difficult to outright impossible, while also making getting the most cash impossible due to the high cut percentages of the other two hackers.
