Player notes
John Marston finds Seth Briars digging through graves in the cemetery at Coot's Chapel. Seth is searching the body of Josephine Byrd for anything valuable, but his attention returns to a treasure map divided between him and his former partner, Moses Forth. Seth says Moses holds the other half and asks John to accompany him to Benedict Point, where the man is being held.
John rides with Seth across Cholla Springs toward Benedict Point. On arrival, Seth points out two deputies near the jail and explains that he needs them drawn away long enough to reach Moses. He tells John to take one of the deputies' horses, leaving Seth to make his way inside while the lawmen focus on the theft.
John steals a deputy's horse and rides out of Benedict Point with the deputies pursuing him. After losing them in the countryside, he returns to the town. Seth has reached Moses and leaves him tied up outside the Telegraph Office. Seth gives John a Pardon Letter, then goes inside the office while Moses remains on the ground at Benedict Point.

Trivia
- โAt the point in the mission where stealing the deputy's horse is required, the player can walk to the back of the shack where Moses is and kill him. This will not register as killing him but will put a bounty on the player's head as if the horse had been taken. The mission will continue as normal.
- โThis is not possible in the Nintendo Switch version, as killing Moses in this manner will result in a mission failure.
- โWhen Seth gives the player the Pardon Letter and walks inside the Telegraph Office, the player can either kill or untie Moses. Sometimes when shooting Moses in the head, he will stop squirming for a moment, and then resume as though nothing had happened; it takes a second or third shot to finish him off.
- โOddly, Seth will not die if the player shoots him at the start of the mission, he will just stand up and run away.
- โIf you fail the horse ride too many times, at one point Seth will start talking about how the last thing he ate was a crow, and that it tasted just like a pig his dad killed when he was a child.
