Hanley

Hanley is the elected sheriff of Strawberry, the town in Big Valley, West Elizabeth. He holds the office before 1898 and leads the Strawberry Sheriff's Office, treating its prisoners and wanted criminals as matters for the law. He carries a Cattleman Revolver and has little patience for strangers who claim to work as bounty hunters, particularly when they seek access to people held in his jail.

During the events of Red Dead Online, bounty hunters bring in wanted people named on the board outside Hanley's office. Hanley receives each prisoner, whether the target arrives alive or dead, pays the posted price and comments on the result. His dealings with these hunters are formal and confined to the business of taking their captives into custody.

In 1899, Hanley arrests Micah Bell and an unnamed O'Driscoll after a drunken fight in Strawberry. Micah has killed two O'Driscolls, and Hanley sentences both prisoners to hang. Arthur Morgan comes to the sheriff's office under Dutch van der Linde's orders, pretending to be a bounty hunter so that he can see the men in the cells. Hanley refuses him, saying that the prisoners can be visited the following morning, when they are due to be hanged.

Arthur breaks Micah out himself, and gunfire spreads through Strawberry. Hanley joins the fighting around the jailbreak and is killed by either Arthur or Micah. Vernon Farley succeeds him as sheriff of Strawberry.
