J. John Weathers

J. John Weathers, known as "Snow Goose", is a former Second Lieutenant in the United States Army who has been stationed at Fort Wallace. Financial trouble leads him to borrow money from Leopold Strauss. He later deserts the Army, leaving him hunted by his former comrades while still unable to repay Strauss. He travels with his Native American partner, who is expecting their child, and carries supplies intended to see them through winter.

Strauss sends Arthur Morgan after Weathers over the unpaid loan. Arthur finds him beside the road at Three Sisters, struggling with a broken wagon. Weathers says he has no money and asks for help repairing it, offering his winter provisions in place of payment. Before the matter is settled, Army soldiers arrive to execute him for desertion. Arthur and Weathers fight them off, but the wagon catches fire in the battle.

With the wagon and provisions lost, Weathers calls for his partner to emerge from hiding. Arthur sees that she is pregnant and regrets his treatment of Weathers. Weathers offers her silver locket as the only thing they have left. Arthur may take it or clear the debt. Weathers then departs Three Sisters with his partner. Arthur later recalls Weathers among the debtors harmed by Strauss when he drives Strauss from the gang.
