Jackson is a United States Army soldier stationed at Fort Wallace in Cumberland Forest, where he serves under Colonel Favours. During the meeting between Favours and Rains Fall, Arthur Morgan suffers a severe coughing fit. Favours loses patience with him and orders Jackson to take him away. Jackson leads Arthur to a tent and offers him water before leaving him alone. From inside, Arthur hears soldiers discussing Favours' intention to court martial Captain Monroe.
Jackson soon returns to check on Arthur, then escorts him back to the negotiations after Arthur says he is well enough. Favours announces that Monroe is to be arrested over the stolen vaccines. Arthur moves behind Jackson and takes the soldier hostage, using him to force Favours to release Monroe. Once Monroe is free, Arthur releases Jackson and leaves Fort Wallace with Charles Smith and the captain. Jackson joins the other soldiers in firing at them as they escape.
If he survives that exchange, Jackson remains at Fort Wallace when Eagle Flies is held prisoner there. He guards Eagle Flies' cell during Arthur and Charles' attempt to free him. Charles stabs Jackson, and Arthur takes the keys to the cell from his body.
