Player notes

James Langton is an American bounty hunter operating across New Austin. In 1898, he presents himself as the man who runs the territory, though he treats bounty work as another criminal trade and takes any contract that pays. In Red Dead Online, he deals with the protagonist around Lake Don Julio and Hennigan's Stead, sending them after jobs that can involve pursuing outlaws or interfering with the law. He carries a Carbine Repeater and works with hired gunmen.

Langton later joins Guido Martelli's criminal network during the Blood Money period. He remains a contact for the protagonist, arranging further work for Martelli's operation in New Austin. His business is driven by the money on offer rather than loyalty to the law or to the people he employs, and he is prepared to put rival hunters and their prisoners in his way if a bounty is at stake.

In 1907, Langton and his men pursue Shane Finley, only to find that Sadie Adler has already captured him. They intercept Sadie near Armadillo and take Finley from her. Sadie brings John Marston to Pike's Basin, where Langton's party waits for reinforcements before taking Finley north to state authorities. John and Sadie attack the camp, and Langton is killed in the fighting at Pike's Basin.
