Player notes
The Dutch Warmblood is a large Horse breed classified in the Work class. It has long legs and a strong build, fitting its role as a hardy work horse. Dutch Warmbloods use Standard handling, which gives them moderate reactivity and agility. The breed appears in four coat styles: Chocolate Roan, Sooty Buckskin, Seal Brown and the unique Cremello Gold.
Among work horses, Dutch Warmbloods are dependable and healthy. They generally have high stamina, with average health and speed, while their acceleration is lower than their other attributes. Their Standard handling makes them steady rather than especially agile. Most Dutch Warmblood coats can be bought, while one is ridden by a random townsfolk.
The sole Cremello Gold Dutch Warmblood is Buell, Hamish Sinclair's horse in 1898 and 1899. If John encounters Hamish, Buell is also present in 1907. Hamish named him for his commander during the American Civil War. After "The Veteran IV", Arthur or John can keep Buell, sell him or leave him behind. Buell cannot be renamed.

- โBoth the Sooty Buckskin and the Seal Brown can be obtained for free off bounty hunters. The Sooty Buckskin can be obtained from random encounters: the prospector or the drunk needing directions (the horse will kick the man if he is misled). The Seal Brown can additionally be obtained from Pinkertons in Blackwater pre-epilogue.
- โWhile being chased by Cornwall's men in the mission "An Honest Mistake", a Seal Brown can be stolen from one of Cornwall's men.
- โDuring a random encounter with a man fending off wolves, a deceased Chocolate Roan can be spotted lying on the ground nearby.
- โThe presence of the Dutch Warmblood in-game is highly anachronistic, as the breed was not developed until the 1960s. An explanation for this is that the horse is meant to be the similar, though much older Hanoverian Warmblood.
- โIt is possible to get the Chocolate Roan for free during the Chapter 2 Mission "Exit Pursued by a Bruised Ego". After purchasing their horse of choice, while still inside the stables, jump into the stall where the warmblood is kept and then feed/brush it until the temporary horse icon appears on the mini-map. Exit the stables and complete the mission as normal. Return to Valentine and whistle for the horse, and it will come to you. You can then saddle and stable the horse as your own.
