Player notes
The Shire is an extra large Draft horse breed in Red Dead Redemption 2. It has a heavyset build, feathering around the lower legs and a convex facial profile. As the largest and strongest breed, it is built to pull heavy carts, wagons and coaches.
Shires use Heavy handling. Their weight and size make them less reactive and agile than riding horses, and they are harder to manoeuvre. They generally have greater health and stamina for draft work, while giving up speed and acceleration to riding horses. Within the Draft class, they are considered average to lower tier horses.
The breed appears in Dark Bay, Light Grey and Raven Black coats. Most Shires must be stolen from their owners. The Raven Black Shire is obtained during the story, and Arthur rides the only one of this coat.
Trivia
- โAt the beginning of "Exit Pursued by a Bruised Ego", Arthur Morgan is tasked to take Hosea Matthews' stolen Raven Black Shire to the stables in Valentine. At the stable, the player may choose to either sell or stable him. If they do not have a version with the War Horse or the Reverse Dapple Black Thoroughbred, keeping him is suggested as he cannot be obtained elsewhere and has slightly above average stats.
