A Fine Night of Debauchery

Josiah Trelawny

While at the Mayor's party, the Van der Linde gang learned of a poker tournament being held on the Grand Korrigan riverboat at the docks in Saint Denis. Leopold Strauss and Josiah Trelawny fix a game so Arthur Morgan can win big on the tables.

Player notes

Arthur Morgan meets Josiah Trelawny outside a tailor in Saint Denis, where Trelawny says he must look respectable before boarding the Grand Korrigan. Arthur buys a Fine Three-Piece Town Suit and visits a barber. Trelawny explains that Desmond Blythe is their target, a wealthy poker player who keeps collateral in the riverboat's safe. Arthur joins Trelawny in a coach, adopting the identity of an oilman who has recently struck it rich.

At the docks, Arthur leaves his weapons in the coach and boards the Grand Korrigan with Trelawny, Leopold Strauss and Javier Escuella. The others take their positions while Arthur sits at Blythe's poker table. Strauss discreetly guides Arthur through the hands. The other players are put out, leaving Arthur against Blythe. Arthur beats him, then accepts a second game when Blythe stakes his Reutlinger Pocket Watch, and wins that as well.

The pit boss leads Arthur upstairs to the safe, with Javier posing as a guard. Once it is opened, Javier overpowers the other guard and Arthur disarms the pit boss. The man draws a second weapon while Arthur takes the money, forcing Arthur to shoot him. Back at the bar, Blythe accuses Arthur before the guard whose uniform Javier stole exposes him. Arthur, Javier, Strauss and Trelawny fight to the deck, jump into the river and reach shore in Saint Denis, where they divide the take and Arthur keeps the watch.

Trivia

  • โ—†Completing this mission unlocks the High Roller Double-Action Revolver.
  • โ—†The other three poker players who go bust in the first round are shown to be named Theodore Dixon, Perry Eastep, and Owen Gillies.
  • โ—†Looting the corpses of the killed guards after the shootout at the bar will reduce the player's honor.
  • โ—†Sometime after completing the mission, a random man in Saint Denis may notice that Arthur looks similar to who he saw on the boat. If so, he confronts Arthur about it, and Arthur can try to defuse the situation or antagonize the man. Regardless, he continues to believe that Arthur is responsible for the robbery, but leaves instead of notifying police.
  • โ—†If Arthur is already wearing a suit before the mission, he will act surprised and confused when Trelawny tells him to smarten up, instead of casually asking why. Trelawny will then say that his suit "isn't fit" for the task at hand.
  • โ—†The outfit Arthur wears during this mission, the Wittemore, is affected by Arthur's honor level. In a High Honor playthrough the vest and tie will be blue, and in a Low Honor playthrough they will be red.
  • โ—†After the mission, the Wittemore will be temporarily saved on the player's horse. The player can permanently keep it by modifying the outfit and then saving it.
  • โ—†The Wittemore would later be worn by Arthur in "Banking, The Old American Art".
  • โ—†Javier will also wear the same formal outfit he wears here during said mission.
  • โ—†After completing this mission, all barber shops provide an extra clean shave to players.
  • โ—†At the beginning of the poker room shootout, an unnamed guard will walk into the room casually and upon discovering the skirmish, he will aim his gun at Javier while his back is turned and if Arthur does not kill him, Strauss will hit him in the back of the head with a wine bottle and possibly kill him.
  • โ—†If the player kills said guard before Strauss does, they will lose honor.
  • โ—†After the mission, some of the gang will comment on Arthur regardless of his haircut when you interact with them.
  • โ—†Trelawny will not be seen again in the camp, after the mission's conclusion.
  • โ—†When at the barber shop, even if the player does not give Arthur a smarter haircut, the mission will still continue as normal. However, he must change either his hair or beard before proceeding unless he skips ahead through failing thrice.
  • โ—†Trelawny is seen reading a newspaper before telling Arthur that they are about to rob the Grand Korrigan riverboat in the Lannahechee River, during the mission's introductory cutscene. The player can buy this same newspaper and see that he got this lead from an article advertising the game in which Arthur was about to participate in.
