Player notes

Arthur rides into Strawberry to free Micah Bell, who is awaiting execution for a double murder. At the sheriff's office, Arthur poses as a bounty hunter searching for O'Driscolls and tries to see the prisoners. Sheriff Hanley refuses him. Outside, Micah calls from his cell window and presses Arthur to get him out. Arthur has little patience for Micah, but follows Dutch's order and agrees to help.

Arthur uses a steam donkey to tear the bars from Micah's cell. He gives Micah a revolver, and Micah immediately kills his O'Driscoll cellmate. Lawmen converge on the jail and Sheriff Hanley is killed in the ensuing gunfight. Arthur urges Micah to flee Strawberry, but Micah instead heads for a house to recover his prized revolvers from Norman, a former associate. Micah shoots Norman at the door, kills Norman's wife Maddy inside, and takes back his guns.

Arthur and Micah fight their way through the lawmen blocking the route out of town, then escape Strawberry on horseback. At Lone Mule Stead in Big Valley, Micah gives Arthur an off-hand holster in thanks. Arthur rebukes him for returning for the revolvers and leaving so many people dead. Micah offers a partial apology, calls them both sons of Dutch, and asks Arthur to meet him nearby when he is ready to make amends.

Trivia

  • โ—†"Blessed are the Meek" is a Bible verse, Matthew 5:5 - "Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth."
  • โ—†The title of the mission is ironic, as โ€œMeekโ€ means someone who is powerless or can endure suffering with patience; Micah, however, is anything but meek throughout the mission.
  • โ—†The player doesnโ€™t have to visit the Sheriff to start the mission - they can go to Micah immediately if they wish.
  • โ—†If the player uses dynamite for the jailbreak and is quick enough to run to the Sheriff's office, they will be teleported back to Micah when the cutscene plays.
  • โ—†Before getting his own revolvers back, Micah uses a pair of Cattleman Revolvers.
  • โ—†This is strange because Arthur only hands Micah a single revolver after breaking him out, meaning Micah would only have one rather than two.
  • โ—†After "A Quiet Time", Micah's model is in the Strawberry jail. He remains there until the player saves him, and can be seen cowering while looking through the window.
  • โ—†Instead of ripping out the bars of Micah's cell with the steam donkey, the player can use dynamite. An altogether different way to rescue Micah is by eliminating all of the lawmen in the Sheriff's office, looting the keys to the cell, and freeing Bell from the inside.
  • โ—†However, the player can also free him without using the keys by alternatively placing dynamite on the door and the mission will continue as normal.
  • โ—†The O'Driscoll inmate is invincible and can only be killed with glitches.
  • โ—†Sometimes if the mission becomes unavailable due to the player committing a crime or becoming wanted by the law, the O'Driscoll may spawn outside of the jail and will act like a regular NPC in town.
  • โ—†Once the mission becomes available, the player will no longer be able to surrender to lawmen or bounty hunters, if they become wanted by the law anywhere in West Elizabeth. Instead, the law will start shooting on sight. This is due to Micah being imprisoned.
  • โ—†Once Arthur and Micah escape the law, a thunderstorm can be seen brewing in the distance. This could be viewed as a reflection of Micah's character, as thunderstorms usually symbolize chaos and a lack of any safety, which is exactly what Micah is known for.
  • โ—†If the player visits Wallace Station General Store after the mission, the shopkeeper will comment that the jailbreak down in Strawberry is the bloodiest he ever heard of and that it is going to take them a while to recover.
