Throwing Knife (RDR 2)

The Throwing Knife is a Projectile weapon in Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online. It is a small, straight-bladed knife made and balanced for throwing, although it also works as a close-range melee weapon. It has no customization options. Its purpose is to reach targets beyond the Hunting Knife's range, allowing silent attacks from a distance, and a thrown knife can be collected again after it strikes a target.

Arthur receives Throwing Knives during Chapter 2's "Paying a Social Call". Once that mission is complete, Fences and the Trapper sell them for $2.50. They can also be collected before the mission at Six Point Cabin, while the hideout is unoccupied, or at Ewing Basin. Murfree Brood members may carry them as loot. A campfire can turn an existing knife into an Improved Throwing Knife with rare bird feathers, or a Poison Throwing Knife with Oleander Sage.

A regular Throwing Knife does not always kill an enemy when it hits, while the Improved version may deliver an immediate kill. At close range, an equipped knife can trigger an instant takedown against an aggressive enemy. Poison Throwing Knives make a single attack lethal and can drive off dangerous animals after a hit, but recovered poisoned knives revert to regular ones. Throwing Knives are required for several Weapons Expert Challenges, including kills against enemies, mounted targets and a grizzly bear.
