Lamar Davis lleva a Chop, su rottweiler, cuando él y Franklin Clinton salen a capturar a D, miembro de los Ballas. Después de que D estrelle la motocicleta y huya a pie, Franklin sigue a Chop por Strawberry. La perspectiva pasa a Chop mientras rastrea a D por el olor. Chop se distrae un instante, pero alcanza a D y lo retiene hasta que Franklin y Lamar lo meten por la fuerza en la furgoneta. Lo liberan cuando Lamar arriesga revelar su posición, y Lamar deja a Chop al cuidado de Franklin.

Chop se instala con Franklin en la Clinton Residence de Vinewood Hills, donde Franklin acepta que estará más seguro. Aunque Lamar sigue siendo su dueño al principio, Chop se convierte en el compañero habitual de Franklin. Franklin puede llevarlo por Los Santos, lanzarle una pelota para que la recoja y subirlo a un coche, donde ocupa el asiento del pasajero. Chop defiende a Franklin de quienes lo atacan y puede buscar personas u objetos ocultos. También aparece durante Caida Libre.

Más adelante, Chop viaja con Franklin, Lamar y Trevor a Grove Street para la reunión con los Ballas en Hood Safari. Cuando el trato deriva en un tiroteo con los Ballas y agentes de policía, Franklin le ordena a Chop que vuelva a casa. Chop abandona el combate y regresa a la Clinton Residence. En Predator, acompaña a Franklin en la búsqueda de los hermanos O'Neil que siguen vivos en el bosque. La perspectiva vuelve a pasar a Chop mientras sigue el rastro de Elwood O'Neil, lo que permite a Franklin encontrar y matar a Elwood antes de que dispare un RPG contra el Frogger de Trevor.

En 2021, Chop sigue viviendo con Franklin, a quien ya consideran su dueño. Más viejo y con canas en el hocico y sobre los ojos, pasa el tiempo en la sede de F. Clinton and Partner durante The Contract. Franklin dice que ya no se mueve demasiado, pero Chop todavía acompaña a Franklin y Lamar en Short Trip - Seed Capital. Muerde a un miembro de los Vagos y los guía hasta el almacén. Permanece en la agencia, donde descansa cerca de Franklin y recibe caricias de los visitantes.

◆A plushie of Chop was made available in a on September 27, 2013, and in a on October 30, 2013. It was later for purchase on the 5th of December.
◆Chop is the first non-human character in the series to play a main role.
◆Strangely, Chop has his own phone number and contact photo in the game files, though they are unused in-game.
◆As seen in several screenshots, Chop's collar was originally brown and pink.
◆In The Contract update for GTA Online, Chop may be seen with either of these collars, alongside a new black one.
◆Chop's appearance has been aged up significantly in the aforementioned update. Considering this DLC is set 8 years after GTA V, Chop has become very old for his species. Rottweilers have an average lifespan of 8–10 years, but can live to be a couple of years older.
◆Chop's signature color is red, as seen when switching to him in Chop and Predator. The PS4 controller light and character wheel background color will switch to red when "playing" as him.
◆However, on the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, Chop's character wheel background color is green like Franklin's.
◆Chop, like all the other animals and dogs, can be shot (only by enemies or cops), killed and run over. Chop doesn't die permanently though, since he always respawns at Franklin's home if Franklin returns after Chop's 'death'. Killing him decreases his happiness completely.
◆Chop is seen to be a very instinctual animal, as seen in the mission Chop, in which he crudely engages in sexual intercourse with another male dog, much to Franklin's chagrin.
◆According to Lamar Davis' Lifeinvader page, Chop was also caught having sex with a cat. However, this may have been a joke on Lamar's part.
◆If Franklin gets into a Fieldmaster while walking Chop, he will order Chop to follow the "bike". This is most likely caused by a developer's oversight.
◆If a vehicle is driven into the water while Chop is in it, he will immediately leave the vehicle and die suddenly. The only time Chop moves across water is the mission Predator, where he swims across the creek with Franklin while chasing the O'Neil brothers.
◆When listening to the radio, if Franklin switches the radio to Blaine County Radio, West Coast Talk Radio, WorldWide FM, or Rebel Radio, Chop will bark a lot more often than when listening to music stations.
◆Chop's dialogue in missions is subtitled as "Woof".
◆It is not possible to bail out of a moving vehicle while Chop is riding as passenger, instead resulting in bringing the vehicle to a complete stop no matter how fast the player is driving.
