Player notes

Lamar Davis brings Chop, his Rottweiler, with him when he and Franklin Clinton set out to seize the Ballas member D. After D wrecks his motorcycle and flees on foot, Franklin follows Chop through Strawberry. The viewpoint shifts to Chop as he tracks D by scent. Chop is briefly distracted, but he catches D and holds him until Franklin and Lamar force him into their van. They release D when Lamar risks exposing them, then Lamar leaves Chop in Franklin's care.

Chop moves into Franklin's home at the Clinton Residence in Vinewood Hills, where Franklin agrees he will be safer. Although Lamar remains his owner at first, Chop becomes Franklin's regular companion. Franklin can take him through Los Santos, throw a ball for him to retrieve, and bring him along in a car, where he takes the passenger seat. Chop defends Franklin from people who attack him and can be called on to search for people or hidden items. He also appears during Caida Libre.

Later, Chop rides with Franklin, Lamar and Trevor to Grove Street for the meeting with the Ballas in Hood Safari. When the deal breaks into a gunfight involving the Ballas and police officers, Franklin orders Chop to run home. Chop leaves the fighting and returns to the Clinton Residence. In Predator, he joins Franklin in the search for the surviving O'Neil brothers in the woods. The viewpoint again shifts to Chop while he follows Elwood O'Neil's trail, allowing Franklin to find and kill Elwood before he can fire an RPG at Trevor's Frogger.

By 2021, Chop is still living with Franklin, who is now regarded as his owner. Older and grayer around the muzzle and eyes, he spends time at the F. Clinton and Partner headquarters during The Contract. Franklin says he no longer gets around much, but Chop still joins Franklin and Lamar during Short Trip - Seed Capital. He bites a Vagos member and leads them toward the warehouse. He remains at the agency, where he can rest near Franklin and receive attention from visitors.

Trivia

◆A plushie of Chop was made available in a on September 27, 2013, and in a on October 30, 2013. It was later for purchase on the 5th of December.
◆Chop is the first non-human character in the series to play a main role.
◆Strangely, Chop has his own phone number and contact photo in the game files, though they are unused in-game.
◆As seen in several screenshots, Chop's collar was originally brown and pink.
◆In The Contract update for GTA Online, Chop may be seen with either of these collars, alongside a new black one.
◆Chop's appearance has been aged up significantly in the aforementioned update. Considering this DLC is set 8 years after GTA V, Chop has become very old for his species. Rottweilers have an average lifespan of 8–10 years, but can live to be a couple of years older.
◆Chop's signature color is red, as seen when switching to him in Chop and Predator. The PS4 controller light and character wheel background color will switch to red when "playing" as him.
◆However, on the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, Chop's character wheel background color is green like Franklin's.
◆Chop, like all the other animals and dogs, can be shot (only by enemies or cops), killed and run over. Chop doesn't die permanently though, since he always respawns at Franklin's home if Franklin returns after Chop's 'death'. Killing him decreases his happiness completely.
◆Chop is seen to be a very instinctual animal, as seen in the mission Chop, in which he crudely engages in sexual intercourse with another male dog, much to Franklin's chagrin.
◆According to Lamar Davis' Lifeinvader page, Chop was also caught having sex with a cat. However, this may have been a joke on Lamar's part.
◆If Franklin gets into a Fieldmaster while walking Chop, he will order Chop to follow the "bike". This is most likely caused by a developer's oversight.
◆If a vehicle is driven into the water while Chop is in it, he will immediately leave the vehicle and die suddenly. The only time Chop moves across water is the mission Predator, where he swims across the creek with Franklin while chasing the O'Neil brothers.
◆When listening to the radio, if Franklin switches the radio to Blaine County Radio, West Coast Talk Radio, WorldWide FM, or Rebel Radio, Chop will bark a lot more often than when listening to music stations.
◆Chop's dialogue in missions is subtitled as "Woof".
◆It is not possible to bail out of a moving vehicle while Chop is riding as passenger, instead resulting in bringing the vehicle to a complete stop no matter how fast the player is driving.
