Player notes

At the Clinton Residence in Strawberry, Franklin Clinton hears his aunt leave for a jog with a friend. Lamar Davis arrives with his Rottweiler, Chop, and asks Franklin to help collect something nearby. The three walk to Lamar's van, where Lamar reveals that he wants to abduct D, a Ballas member. Franklin drives Lamar and Chop to Vinewood Boulevard. Franklin and Lamar enter an alley, cover their faces with green bandanas and confront D as he talks with a woman. Lamar draws a pistol, but D escapes on a motorcycle.

Franklin and Lamar pursue D in the van through Los Santos until a bus knocks him from his bike in Simmet Alley. D flees through the bus terminal, and Franklin gives chase on foot with Chop. They follow him into the railyard, where D disappears among the boxcars. The perspective shifts to Chop as he follows D's scent while Franklin searches the train cars. Chop abruptly runs after another male dog and mounts him, forcing Franklin to pull him away before they resume the search.

Chop finds D hiding in a boxcar. D bolts, but Chop catches him and holds him down until Franklin arrives. Lamar pulls up in the van, and Franklin puts D in the back with Chop. On the drive toward Lamar's house, Lamar calls the Ballas to demand ransom. Franklin warns that the call exposes them to the Ballas and the LSPD, throws Lamar's phone from the van and makes him release D. After losing the police, Franklin drops Lamar and Chop at the BJ Smith Recreational Center.

Trivia

  • โ—†At the end of the conversation between Lamar and Franklin while walking to the van, it may sound at first like Lamar is berating Franklin for talking negatively about his aunt Denise. However, if Franklin stops at the corner just before the van, Lamar will add that he's "just fucking with him".
  • โ—†During the dialogue between Franklin and Lamar while they are going to Vinewood Boulevard to capture D, Franklin may mention that Lamar used to steal tankers. This is a reference to one of Lamar's original contact missions in GTA Online, Going Down the GOH, where the needs to steal a tanker and deliver it to Lamar.
  • โ—†If this mission is started prior to doing Complications, while driving up Vinewood Boulevard, Franklin and Lamar will discuss Simeon Yetarian not looking after them; if this mission is started after completing Complications, Franklin and Lamar will have a different conversation with Franklin saying that he has made a new contact.
  • โ—†Franklin uses a special bandana when confronting D for the first time in the alley. This bandana can be worn again by going to Franklin's wardrobe and going to masks, and unlocks upon completing the storyline.
  • โ—†If the player is struggling to get up the hills in the van, Franklin may ask why they aren't using Lamar's Emperor instead.
  • โ—†When chasing D's Bati 801, Franklin will either complain about him and Lamar "chasing another motherfucker on a motorcycle" or about "all these punk-ass bikes." Both lines are references to Repossession, in which they chased Esteban Jimenez who attempted to get away from them on a Bagger.
  • โ—†In this mission, the player can switch to Chop to sense D, hence making it the first time in the series to see from an animal's point of view in the game.
  • โ—†Chop also takes up a temporary character slot, and can be switched with Franklin.
  • โ—†If Chop is well trained (via the iFruit App), he'll listen to Franklin and come back when he calls him. Franklin will also compliment Chop for listening and tell Lamar that his dog's well trained.
  • โ—†As of December 12th, 2022, the ability to train Chop is impossible as support for the iFruit App disappeared that day. The app itself was removed from the App Store and Google Play as well.
  • โ—†During the chase, Lamar will make a direct reference to Franklin's special ability, saying to him use that "special driver thing that he does".
  • โ—†D's Bati 801 cannot be obtained after he crashes into the bus; pressing the button command to exit the van won't do anything.
  • โ—†At the bus terminal, the buses do not use the actual parking spaces for the buses, nor do they leave the terminal through the correct exit (they exit through what is supposed to be the entrance).
  • โ—†When Chop is chasing after D (just before being bitten by Chop), one could shoot D, but he will not take any damage, nor will he be affected. Blood will still spill where D is shot. Also, Stun Gun hits will not affect him.
  • โ—†Franklin can shoot the other dog to prevent Chop from approaching it.
  • โ—†At the railyard, a few train locomotives can be seen moving. However, some of these have no driver and these are scripted to use "dead ends" railways (something similar to Sidetracked).
  • โ—†Judging from the dialogue between Lamar and D, it is implied that the two most likely know each other from past encounters.
  • โ—†When Franklin enters the van after putting D in the back, the radio station will be tuned in to West Coast Classics, and the track "Still D.R.E." by Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg will always play.
  • โ—†Lamar also says "ain't no fun if the gangsters can't have none" to D, which is a clear reference to another by Snoop Dogg.
  • โ—†Sometimes, when the player hangs out with Lamar using Franklin, they will both discuss this mission along with The Long Stretch mission.
