Player notes

At the Clinton Residence in Strawberry, Denise and Lamar accuse Franklin of neglecting the Families and the neighbourhood. Franklin wants no part of their gang business. Trevor arrives, gives Denise some money and sends her inside, then explains that he is looking to make friends. Lamar mentions a drug deal involving Stretch, which catches Trevor's interest. Franklin, Trevor, Lamar and Chop climb into Lamar's van and drive to Grove Street.

The group approaches a house in Grove Street to meet the Ballas dealer. He presents a wrapped brick of cocaine, and Lamar samples it before preparing to pay. Trevor distrusts the product and demands a sample from the other side. He wrestles the brick away from the dealer and breaks it open, exposing a drywall centre with only a thin layer of cocaine. The dealer retreats indoors and calls out to the nearby Ballas, who open fire on the three men.

Franklin fights alongside Lamar and Trevor through Grove Street as Ballas gunmen close in. Chop flees after Lamar tells him to run. The viewpoint switches to Trevor as the gunfight continues, and the LSPD arrives during the escape. Lamar leads Franklin and Trevor through an alley towards the Los Santos River, where a film shoot is taking place beside several Seasharks. The men seize the watercraft and head out across the water while police pursue them.

Once they have put distance between themselves and the police, Franklin proposes that they split up. Franklin or Trevor can leave alone, remain with Lamar, or travel with the other protagonist until the police lose them. If Lamar stays with either man, he is taken home. Trevor takes Franklin back to the Clinton Residence if they remain together, while Franklin drives Trevor to the Vanilla Unicorn if he stays with Trevor.

Trivia

  • โ—†This mission is extremely similar to a scene of the movie Training Day where a resident of Compton, on which Grove Street and Davis in general are based, yells out to the gang members nearby that they were ripped off, prompting a gunfight that involves the whole neighborhood. In Hood Safari, the drug dealer who attempts to swindle Franklin, Lamar, and Trevor, shouts a line about buyer's remorse before slamming the door, prompting the local Ballas members to open fire on the trio.
  • โ—†As the player approaches the cul-de-sac, they will be able to see three NPCs on BMX bikes riding down Grove Street, referencing the mission Sweet & Kendl from GTA San Andreas, in which CJ, Sweet, Big Smoke and Ryder escape the pursuing Ballas on bikes.
  • โ—†The name and setup of the mission are similar to Concrete Jungle, a mission in GTA IV, where Niko Bellic helps Little Jacob to go to a drug deal, which fails, leading Niko to kill the dealers and later taking revenge on the dealers' friends in their apartment.
  • โ—†The drug deal goes down at a house that is in the same vicinity that the Johnson House existed in the counterpart of Grove Street in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, although the house bears no resemblance.
  • โ—†The mission was originally going to be called "Ghetto Safari" and "Urban Safari".
  • โ—†The mission can be seen in a pre-release screenshot, but its name was never revealed at the time. It was also featured in the first-person reveal trailer.
  • โ—†The background music used during the shootout between the Ballas and the protagonists is the same music used in the GTA V gameplay trailer.
  • โ—†Denise was seen wearing a green hoodie shirt and an glasses on Franklin's trailer gameplay it's basically not in the game.
  • โ—†Once the icon appears on the map for this mission (upon completion of Three's Company), Franklin will always spawn near his aunt's house when switched to, regardless of whether or not he has moved into the Vinewood Hills safehouse yet.
  • โ—†Canonically, completing this mission before The Hotel Assassination makes more sense, as Franklin hasn't moved out yet.
  • โ—†Both Franklin and Trevor can trigger the mission. If the mission is triggered as Trevor, he will arrive in the middle of Franklin's argument with his aunt and Lamar. The complete exchange can only be seen if the mission is started as Franklin.
  • โ—†In this mission, Trevor will use his Pump Shotgun by default, while Franklin will use an SMG by default. This will also be the case if the player changes weapons, then uses the Switch function and switches back to whoever they controlled previously.
  • โ—†Chop flees once the firefight begins, following Lamar's orders. Once the mission ends, he'll return to Franklin's safehouse.
  • โ—†Trevor may yell, "Chamberlain Families for life, motherfuckers!", a reference to how the Grove Street Families' motto is "Grove 4 Life". He also yells this line in Lamar Down.
  • โ—†It is possible to kill MC Clip during the mission, with Weazel News reporting on it. Oddly, a bleet from MC Clip on Bleeter exists afterwards, meaning that he either bleeted prior to dying, the news was wrong, or that it was a developer oversight.
  • โ—†The player can hear four different conversations by the end of the mission, depending on which characters escape together after losing the cops:
  • โ—†Franklin and Lamar: They will talk about the former Grove Street set of The Families, the "Grove Street Families". Lamar tells Franklin that Grove Street was The Families' former territory. Franklin replies by saying that GSF was on Grove Street a long time ago and that the living remaining members could be either dead or their had become CEOs.
  • โ—†This is a reference to the Grove Street Families from the 3D Universe canon, in the events of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and also unintentionally foreshadowing the events of Grand Theft Auto Online: The Contract, set eight years after Grand Theft Auto V, where Franklin and Lamar are CEOs of their own legit businesses.
  • โ—†Franklin and Trevor (playing as Franklin): They will talk about Michael being a bad influence on Franklin.
  • โ—†Trevor and Franklin (playing as Trevor): They will talk about the old life of Michael and Trevor in the Midwest.
  • โ—†When playing as Trevor and sticking with Franklin during the escape, Franklin may say, "Let's see how the experienced expert in everything ducks the cops!", referencing to how Trevor is a "professional" criminal.
  • โ—†Trevor and Lamar: They will talk about what the colors represent to the gangs.
  • โ—†Alternatively, escaping as Franklin or Trevor individually results in the mission ending once the wanted level is lost, without providing any extra dialogue.
