Player notes

Michael De Santa and Trevor Philips meet Martin Madrazo at La Fuente Blanca in Vinewood Hills. Madrazo tells them that his cousin, Javier Madrazo, is preparing to testify against him. Javier is flying out that afternoon with documents Madrazo wants recovered. He sends Michael and Trevor after the aircraft, treating the job as a favour despite Michael's belief that their debt has already been settled.

Michael goes to the Galileo Observatory on East Galileo Avenue and finds a black Burrito fitted with a heavy rifle. From the van, he tracks Javier's Shamal and fires on its engine until the jet begins to fall short of Los Santos International Airport. Control shifts to Trevor, already on a Sanchez. He races after the descending aircraft through Great Chaparral, Harmony and Sandy Shores to its crash site near Union Road.

Trevor kills Javier, enters the wrecked plane and takes the documents. Control returns to Michael, who drives the Burrito away from the observatory and destroys it. As Michael heads toward La Fuente Blanca, Trevor calls and redirects him to Stoner Cement Works on Senora Road. Trevor arrives in Martin's SUV and reveals Patricia Madrazo bound in its trunk. Michael and Trevor leave the cement works to hide in Sandy Shores, and control switches to Franklin.

Trivia

  • โ—†"Caida Libre" is Spanish for "free fall". This is the only mission of the game where it has a Spanish title.
  • โ—†If it's translated to English, it will share resemblance to Freefall from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
  • โ—†While Trevor is chasing the descending plane, if the player passes Trevor's trailer, Trevor will say a random phrase towards Ron (e.g. "RON! You better be working!" or "How's business, Ronald?").
  • โ—†When Trevor chases the plane, he claims that the only thing farmed in Blaine County is methamphetamine. This is partially correct, as meth labs are common in the county.
  • โ—†In the beta version, Franklin was supposed to fill Trevor's role, confirmed by a screenshot. Instead, when "Caida Libre" is unlocked, Franklin receives a text from Michael informing him of the job, stating that Martin asked for Franklin, but Michael did Franklin "a solid" and got Trevor involved instead.
  • โ—†Originally, this mission was going to be called Vinewood Babylon.
  • โ—†Time will briefly slow down when Trevor jumps over the bus and the train.
  • โ—†Martin said that he will let know Michael when the plane arrives to the observatory. However, this never happens.
  • โ—†If the player (as Michael) jumps onto the truck bed before Trevor drives off, he will start insulting Michael with his usual lines for when he insults pedestrians ("You hideous mistake", etc.) until Michael gets off. The same applies if the player follows Trevor and performs a near miss as Michael.
  • โ—†The Remote Sniper that Michael uses in the van to take the plane down is similar to the weapon that Bruce Willis uses in the film The Jackal. The weapon may also be a reference to the 2003 film, S.W.A.T., where an LAPD A109 is shot down by the antagonist, using a setup similar to the van.
  • โ—†Michael can only use his special ability before the first successful shot. After this, it will be unavailable, even if it was fully charged previously.
  • โ—†When Trevor says Michael was scouting the house for a heist, it is a reference to a cut beta heist known as The Sharmoota Job, where Michael and Trevor would dress as either clowns or mimes and steal Aztec artifacts from Madrazo's house and kidnap Patricia.
  • โ—†The rifle Michael uses is located right next to Galileo Observatory, yet when the player actually takes control of the weapon, the view through the electronic scope makes it appear to be atop Weazel Plaza in Rockford Hills, a considerable distance away. Most obviously, the Del Perro Freeway is visible in the bottom right of the screen after activating the rifle. Shooting down the plane in that POV would be much harder at that distance. This was probably done to make the shots easier.
  • โ—†It is not required to take the bike offered by the mission. The player can take any vehicle they want, despite the game saying to take the Sanchez.
  • โ—†The Xbox One, PS4 and PC version have been patched to have Michael receive a call from Martin following the first mission for Solomon Richards, recruiting him and Franklin for the job. Michael tells Martin that he does not want to get Franklin involved but knows "another guy", referring to Trevor.
  • โ—†Shortly after completing the mission and taking control of Franklin, he can immediately hangout with Michael who appears around Los Santos and Trevor despite both were unavailable to switch.
  • โ—†This mission has similarities to crรจme de le crรจme from mafia definitive edition
