El Nokota es una raza de caballo pequeña de la clase Carrera en Red Dead Redemption 2, con manejo Carrera. Prima la velocidad y la aceleración sobre la salud y la resistencia, y su respuesta rápida y ágil lo hace apropiado para recorrer distancias cortas con rapidez. Frente a otros caballos de carrera, iguala a muchas razas de su clase en velocidad y aceleración, aunque su menor resistencia lo hace menos apto para jornadas largas y duras.
Los Nokota normales aparecen en estado salvaje. Los Blue Roan y White Roan se pueden encontrar en la zona central de Heartlands, en New Hanover, al norte de Armadillo o cerca de Fort Mercer, en New Austin. La raza cuenta con los pelajes normales Blue Roan, White Roan, Reverse Dapple Roan y Scarred Blue Roan. Un pelaje normal se puede comprar, mientras que los demás se encuentran en la naturaleza.
Karen Jones monta durante 1899 a un Nokota Smoky Black único llamado Old Belle, que permanece en el campamento de la banda. Falmouth, el Nokota Grey Roan Sabino de Charles Smith, está en Beecher's Hope antes de "American Venom", en 1907. En "Home Improvement for Beginners", Falmouth y Nell IV, el caballo de Uncle, derriban la cabaña que se alzaba en los terrenos de Beecher's Hope.

- ◆The Scarred Blue Roan found in Murfree Brood Random Encounters will be underweight and have empty cores when first acquired, likely due to their poor treatment by the Murfrees. Despite being labelled as a Nokota, this horse uses a slightly modified version of the Appaloosa model.
- ◆The scarred horses are considered special by the game, and as such cannot be sold to Clay Davies because he "doesn't want to deal with the owner".
- ◆The two encounters that include the Scarred Blue Roan are as follows: one involves the Murfrees with a wagon full of corpses and a woman, with a 1/3 chance of the Blue Roan spawning. The other method involves setting up a campfire in Murfree country and there may be a random encounter where the Murfrees will talk down to the player and ride away on the Scarred Blue Roan and Scarred Blanket Appaloosa.
- ◆A random encounter near Blackwater features a White Roan Nokota that has been shot with arrows. Brushing the horse will clean up the wounds, but the arrows will only be removed when the horse's model is refreshed (typically occurs when visiting a stable, reloading the game, or during specific missions).
- ◆The Blue Roan Nokota is a black base roan featuring a star and stripe.
- ◆The White Roan Nokota appears to be a maximum sabino overo with a mane and tail that is not sun-bleached. While the eyes are brown, the intro cutscene to "My Last Boy" features a unique variant that has blue eyes instead.
- ◆The Reverse Dapple Roan is a black base blue roan featuring reverse dappling.
- ◆The Scarred Blue Roan Nokota is a darker version of the Blue Roan, featuring the same markings albeit with numerous deep wounds that have penetrated the skin.
- ◆The Gray Roan Sabino is based off an actual graying sabino that was either a chestnut originally, or had an extensively sun-bleached mane and tail. Like the reference, this features a skull face marking and four socks. Neither display any noticeable roan characteristics, although the gray gene overwrites roaning as the horse ages.
- ◆The Smoky Black Nokota is in actuality a graying horse with what is likely a bay base and a sun-bleached mane and tail. "Bloody marks" (areas of the fur with heavy red pigmentation) can be observed on the shoulder and legs.
