Player notes
The Nokota is a small Race-class horse breed in Red Dead Redemption 2, with Race handling. It favours speed and acceleration over health and stamina, and its responsive, agile handling makes it suited to quick travel over short distances. Among race horses, its pace and acceleration keep up with many other breeds in the class, while its lower endurance leaves it less suited to prolonged hard riding.
Regular Nokotas appear in the wilderness. Blue Roan and White Roan horses can be found in the central Heartlands of New Hanover, north of Armadillo, or near Fort Mercer in New Austin. The breed has Blue Roan, White Roan, Reverse Dapple Roan and Scarred Blue Roan regular coats. One regular coat is available for purchase, while the others are found wild.
Karen Jones rides a unique Smoky Black Nokota named Old Belle during 1899, and the horse remains at the gang's camp. Charles Smith's Grey Roan Sabino Nokota, Falmouth, is at Beecher's Hope before "American Venom" in 1907. During "Home Improvement for Beginners", Falmouth and Uncle's horse Nell IV pull down the shack that had stood on the Beecher's Hope land.

- โThe Scarred Blue Roan found in Murfree Brood Random Encounters will be underweight and have empty cores when first acquired, likely due to their poor treatment by the Murfrees. Despite being labelled as a Nokota, this horse uses a slightly modified version of the Appaloosa model.
- โThe scarred horses are considered special by the game, and as such cannot be sold to Clay Davies because he "doesn't want to deal with the owner".
- โThe two encounters that include the Scarred Blue Roan are as follows: one involves the Murfrees with a wagon full of corpses and a woman, with a 1/3 chance of the Blue Roan spawning. The other method involves setting up a campfire in Murfree country and there may be a random encounter where the Murfrees will talk down to the player and ride away on the Scarred Blue Roan and Scarred Blanket Appaloosa.
- โA random encounter near Blackwater features a White Roan Nokota that has been shot with arrows. Brushing the horse will clean up the wounds, but the arrows will only be removed when the horse's model is refreshed (typically occurs when visiting a stable, reloading the game, or during specific missions).

- โThe White Roan Nokota appears to be a maximum sabino overo with a mane and tail that is not sun-bleached. While the eyes are brown, the intro cutscene to "My Last Boy" features a unique variant that has blue eyes instead.
- โThe Reverse Dapple Roan is a black base blue roan featuring reverse dappling.
- โThe Scarred Blue Roan Nokota is a darker version of the Blue Roan, featuring the same markings albeit with numerous deep wounds that have penetrated the skin.
- โThe Gray Roan Sabino is based off an actual graying sabino that was either a chestnut originally, or had an extensively sun-bleached mane and tail. Like the reference, this features a skull face marking and four socks. Neither display any noticeable roan characteristics, although the gray gene overwrites roaning as the horse ages.
- โThe Smoky Black Nokota is in actuality a graying horse with what is likely a bay base and a sun-bleached mane and tail. "Bloody marks" (areas of the fur with heavy red pigmentation) can be observed on the shoulder and legs.
