Le Rolling Block Rifle est un fusil de précision à lunette conçu pour les tirs à longue distance. Sa conception Litchfield Rolling Block est destinée à la chasse au gros gibier et au combat à longue portée, avec des viseurs télescopiques disponibles à différents niveaux de grossissement. Il ne contient qu'une munition à la fois et utilise des Rifle Ammo, avec une capacité maximale de 120 cartouches. Des munitions de fusil Regular, High Velocity, Split Point, Express et Explosive peuvent y être chargées.
Arthur reçoit gratuitement ce fusil de l'armurier de Valentine durant "The Sheep and the Goats". Après "Pouring Forth Oil" au Chapter 2, il est vendu par les armuriers pour 187 $. Dans Red Dead Online, il devient disponible auprès des armuriers au Rank 13. Il peut également être commandé via le Handheld Catalog, puis récupéré sur un cheval, dans un Post Office ou au Camp.
Le fusil inflige des dégâts et offre une portée très élevés, ce qui le place parmi les armes à longue distance les plus puissantes contre une cible unique. Sa lunette permet au tireur d'engager une cible de loin et de frapper avant qu'elle ne soit consciente de la menace. Cette puissance se paie par une cadence de tir et de rechargement lente par rapport aux autres armes de sa catégorie, car chaque tir doit être remplacé individuellement.
Anecdotes
- ◆The weapon is based on the Remington Rolling Block rifle. Specifically the No.1 Sporting, as evidenced by the energy delivered by its ammunition, and the shortened forend with the lack of a bayonet lug.
- ◆The HUD icon of the Rolling Block Rifle is incorrectly depicted in the game, as the stock is lower positioned and the scope more positioned on the back than aligned with the start of the barrel as shown in the game.
- ◆The Rolling Block Rifle is one of two guns which players are forced to look through a scope when aiming in regardless of which camera mode they're using, with the other gun being the Carcano rifle. Combined with its low rate of fire, this rifle has very limited usefulness during a close range firefight.
- ◆With the use of a glitch, the player can completely bypass this restriction by removing the scope from the rifle. The scopeless rolling block rifle is fully functional in first and third person, and thus can be used like a more powerful Springfield rifle. However, they cannot auto-aim due to the gun not being intended to be used this way. This also renders the gun's catalog description ironic, which mocks those who fight at close range.
