About this weapon
The Rolling Block Rifle is a scoped sniper rifle built for distant shots. Its Litchfield Rolling Block design is intended for hunting large animals and for long-range combat, with telescopic sights available at different magnifications. It holds one round at a time and uses Rifle Ammo, carrying up to 120 rounds. Regular, High Velocity, Split Point, Express and Explosive rifle ammunition can be loaded into it.
Arthur receives the rifle free from the Valentine gunsmith during "The Sheep and the Goats". After "Pouring Forth Oil" in Chapter 2, it is sold by gunsmiths for $187. In Red Dead Online, it becomes available from gunsmiths at Rank 13. It can also be ordered through the Handheld Catalog, then collected from a horse, a Post Office or a Camp.
The rifle delivers very high damage and range, placing it among the strongest long-distance weapons for a single target. Its scope lets a shooter engage from afar and strike before a target is aware of the threat. That power comes with a slow firing and reloading pace compared with other weapons in its class, since every shot has to be replaced individually.

- โThe weapon is based on the Remington Rolling Block rifle. Specifically the No.1 Sporting, as evidenced by the energy delivered by its ammunition, and the shortened forend with the lack of a bayonet lug.
- โThe HUD icon of the Rolling Block Rifle is incorrectly depicted in the game, as the stock is lower positioned and the scope more positioned on the back than aligned with the start of the barrel as shown in the game.
- โThe Rolling Block Rifle is one of two guns which players are forced to look through a scope when aiming in regardless of which camera mode they're using, with the other gun being the Carcano rifle. Combined with its low rate of fire, this rifle has very limited usefulness during a close range firefight.
- โWith the use of a glitch, the player can completely bypass this restriction by removing the scope from the rifle. The scopeless rolling block rifle is fully functional in first and third person, and thus can be used like a more powerful Springfield rifle. However, they cannot auto-aim due to the gun not being intended to be used this way. This also renders the gun's catalog description ironic, which mocks those who fight at close range.
