Il BF Surfer è un furgone ricreativo a due posti e quattro porte, appartenente alla classe Vans. La carrozzeria arrotondata, il parabrezza sdoppiato, i dettagli cromati e il motore montato posteriormente richiamano il Volkswagen T1, mentre la sezione centrale e la parte posteriore si ispirano anch'esse al Volkswagen T2. Può comparire con un portapacchi sul tetto, talvolta con una tavola da surf. Le strisce anteriori, le strisce laterali, l'area dell'abitacolo, le cerniere delle porte e il vano motore usano il colore primario della verniciatura, mentre la carrozzeria usa quello secondario.
In Grand Theft Auto V, i Surfer possono comparire accanto a una strada in Blaine County insieme a un Radius. Un esemplare dai colori unici è abbandonato su Smoke Tree Road vicino a Sandy Shores Airfield durante il Random Event del veicolo abbandonato, dove un uomo sconosciuto attacca il protagonista che si avvicina con una Stun Gun. Un Surfer pulito può inoltre comparire alla festa sulla spiaggia sotto il primo ponte a nord di Fort Zancudo. In Grand Theft Auto Online, è venduto da Southern San Andreas Super Autos per $11,000 e compare nei dintorni di Del Perro, Chumash e North Chumash.
Il Surfer ha un piccolo motore posteriore che aziona le ruote posteriori attraverso un cambio a quattro marce. Accelera discretamente per le sue dimensioni, ma la bassa velocità complessiva e la maneggevolezza mediocre lo rendono lento rispetto agli altri furgoni. Inoltre assorbe male le collisioni pesanti e fatica a evitare il traffico durante gli inseguimenti. - ◆This vehicle is named "Surfer" because its inspiration, the Volkswagen T1, is famous for its association with the 1960s surf culture. In reference to this, it often spawns with a surfboard on the roof.
- ◆When damaged enough, the sliding doors open outwards like normal doors, even though there are door railings on the sides. In addition, it cannot carry passengers on the back, similar to the Youga.
- ◆Similar to the Journey and Youga Classic, the Surfer has an anachronistically modern interior, fitted with a plastic steering wheel and dash, even though it is a '60s van.
- ◆The modified Surfer vans in lime green are likely a reference to the "chartreuse Microbus" mentioned in the C.W. McCall song "Convoy", which can be heard on Rebel Radio.
- ◆During Signal Intercepts, after reaching the Deluxos a blue-and-white Surfer will drive past. This is a reference to the 1985 film Back to the Future, as in that film shortly after the DeLorean time machine is revealed the two main characters are attacked by Libyan terrorists driving a blue-and-white 2nd Gen Volkswagen T2.
- ◆Curiously, despite the van and its driver not being marked as hostile, it is a valid target for homing missile lock-ons before Lester Crest orders missions to the player, and also counts for the "Number of enemies killed" statistics in the leaderboards screen.
