BF Surfer to dwuosobowy, czterodrzwiowy van rekreacyjny z klasy Vans. Zaokrąglone nadwozie, dzielona przednia szyba, chromowane elementy i silnik umieszczony z tyłu nawiązują do Volkswagena T1. Środkowa część nadwozia i tył czerpią także z Volkswagena T2. Może pojawić się z bagażnikiem dachowym, a czasem również z deską surfingową na dachu. Przednie i boczne pasy, kabina, zawiasy drzwi oraz komora silnika mają kolor podstawowy, natomiast nadwozie korzysta z koloru dodatkowego.
W Grand Theft Auto V Surfer może pojawić się przy drodze w Blaine County obok Radiusa. Egzemplarz w wyjątkowym kolorze stoi porzucony na Smoke Tree Road, w pobliżu Sandy Shores Airfield, podczas Random Eventu z porzuconym pojazdem. Gdy protagonista podchodzi do niego pieszo, nieznany mężczyzna razi go Stun Gun. Czysty Surfer może także pojawić się na imprezie na plaży pod pierwszym mostem na północ od Fort Zancudo. W Grand Theft Auto Online pojazd sprzedaje Southern San Andreas Super Autos za $11,000, a także można go spotkać w okolicach Del Perro, Chumash i North Chumash.
Surfer ma niewielki silnik z tyłu, który napędza tylne koła przez czterobiegową skrzynię. Przyspiesza przyzwoicie jak na swoje rozmiary, lecz niska prędkość i przeciętne prowadzenie sprawiają, że wypada ociężale na tle innych vanów. Słabo znosi też ciężkie kolizje i trudno nim omijać ruch uliczny podczas pościgów. Dźwięk silnika dzieli z Injection i Dune Buggy, chociaż Surfer nie wchodzi na równie wysokie obroty. - ◆This vehicle is named "Surfer" because its inspiration, the Volkswagen T1, is famous for its association with the 1960s surf culture. In reference to this, it often spawns with a surfboard on the roof.
- ◆When damaged enough, the sliding doors open outwards like normal doors, even though there are door railings on the sides. In addition, it cannot carry passengers on the back, similar to the Youga.
- ◆Similar to the Journey and Youga Classic, the Surfer has an anachronistically modern interior, fitted with a plastic steering wheel and dash, even though it is a '60s van.
- ◆The modified Surfer vans in lime green are likely a reference to the "chartreuse Microbus" mentioned in the C.W. McCall song "Convoy", which can be heard on Rebel Radio.
- ◆During Signal Intercepts, after reaching the Deluxos a blue-and-white Surfer will drive past. This is a reference to the 1985 film Back to the Future, as in that film shortly after the DeLorean time machine is revealed the two main characters are attacked by Libyan terrorists driving a blue-and-white 2nd Gen Volkswagen T2.
- ◆Curiously, despite the van and its driver not being marked as hostile, it is a valid target for homing missile lock-ons before Lester Crest orders missions to the player, and also counts for the "Number of enemies killed" statistics in the leaderboards screen.
