La BF Surfer es una furgoneta recreativa de cuatro puertas y dos plazas de la clase Vans. Su carrocería redondeada, parabrisas dividido, detalles cromados y motor trasero recuerdan a la Volkswagen T1, mientras que la sección central y la parte posterior también toman rasgos de la Volkswagen T2. Puede aparecer con una baca y, en ocasiones, con una tabla de surf encima. Las franjas delanteras y laterales, el habitáculo, las bisagras de las puertas y el compartimento del motor usan el color primario, y la carrocería usa el secundario.
En Grand Theft Auto V, la Surfer puede aparecer junto a una carretera de Blaine County con una Radius. Hay una Surfer de color exclusivo abandonada en Smoke Tree Road, cerca de Sandy Shores Airfield, durante el Random Event del vehículo abandonado. Al acercarse el protagonista a pie, un hombre desconocido lo ataca con una Stun Gun. También puede aparecer una Surfer limpia en la fiesta de la playa bajo el primer puente al norte de Fort Zancudo. En Grand Theft Auto Online, Southern San Andreas Super Autos la vende por $11,000, y puede verse por Del Perro, Chumash y North Chumash.
La Surfer lleva un pequeño motor trasero que transmite fuerza a las ruedas traseras mediante una caja de cuatro velocidades. Acelera de forma aceptable para su tamaño, pero su escasa velocidad máxima y su manejo normal la hacen lenta frente a otras furgonetas. También soporta mal los impactos fuertes y le cuesta esquivar el tráfico en persecuciones. El motor comparte sonido con la Injection y la Dune Buggy, aunque la Surfer no sube tanto de revoluciones. Se usa como vehículo de tráfico y en el Random Event del vehículo abandonado.
Curiosidades
- ◆This vehicle is named "Surfer" because its inspiration, the Volkswagen T1, is famous for its association with the 1960s surf culture. In reference to this, it often spawns with a surfboard on the roof.
- ◆When damaged enough, the sliding doors open outwards like normal doors, even though there are door railings on the sides. In addition, it cannot carry passengers on the back, similar to the Youga.
- ◆Similar to the Journey and Youga Classic, the Surfer has an anachronistically modern interior, fitted with a plastic steering wheel and dash, even though it is a '60s van.
- ◆The modified Surfer vans in lime green are likely a reference to the "chartreuse Microbus" mentioned in the C.W. McCall song "Convoy", which can be heard on Rebel Radio.
- ◆During Signal Intercepts, after reaching the Deluxos a blue-and-white Surfer will drive past. This is a reference to the 1985 film Back to the Future, as in that film shortly after the DeLorean time machine is revealed the two main characters are attacked by Libyan terrorists driving a blue-and-white 2nd Gen Volkswagen T2.
- ◆Curiously, despite the van and its driver not being marked as hostile, it is a valid target for homing missile lock-ons before Lester Crest orders missions to the player, and also counts for the "Number of enemies killed" statistics in the leaderboards screen.
