Il Cannon è un'arma d'artiglieria a canna liscia stazionaria che spara munizioni tramite una carica propellente, più comunemente una palla di cannone. Red Dead Redemption 2 presenta diverse forme di cannone: l'Hotchkiss Cannon, l'Hotchkiss Mountain Gun e i cannoni navali montati sulla Guarma Warship. Compare anche il Model 1841 6-Pdr Smoothbore Field Gun, sebbene soltanto come elemento scenografico a Bolger Glade, Sisika Penitentiary e Riley's Charge.
Durante "Hell Hath No Fury" del Capitolo 5, Arthur Morgan manovra un Hotchkiss Cannon a Cinco Torres per affondare una nave da guerra. L'imbarcazione risponde al fuoco con una variante unica di cannone, che non si trova in nessun altro punto del gioco. In "Paradise Mercifully Departed", Arthur distrugge diversi Hotchkiss Mountain Guns, poi ne usa uno contro Alberto Fussar.
Gli Hotchkiss Mountain Guns compaiono anche in "The King's Son", dove uno di essi apre una breccia nel muro di Fort Wallace. In "Favored Sons", un cannone viene puntato contro Arthur, ma durante la battaglia può impossessarsene. Questi cannoni vengono usati come artiglieria fissa negli scontri delle missioni, mentre i Model 1841 field guns restano elementi scenografici inutilizzabili nel mondo di gioco.

- ◆Cannonballs disappear once they reach a certain distance from a player, any player in Multiplayer. The maximum range for a cannon shot is unknown, but one gunner and one "observer" cooperating managed to shoot a ball from El Presidio to past Casa Madrugada.
- ◆At the time of Red Dead Redemption, conventional cannons had been obsoleted by more modern rifled cannons, howitzers, and mortars. Smoothbore cannons still found use, but were increasingly uncommon and no longer in production.
- ◆The cannon in Red Dead Redemption appears to be based on the 7 inch and 8 inch breech loading Armstrong Guns of the 1850s and 1860s.
- ◆Sometimes, when shooting a cannon inside El Presidio, NPC's will aim their weapons or actually fire on the player. This is most likely because they feel threatened by the continued use of the cannon, or some splash damage could have injured an NPC inside.
