Jack Marston nasce em 1895, filho de John Marston e Abigail Roberts, quando ambos pertencem à gangue Van der Linde. Ele é criado nos acampamentos pelo grupo, tendo Abigail como sua principal protetora enquanto John tem dificuldade em assumir a paternidade e já havia abandonado a gangue por um ano. John recusa brincar de cavaleiros com o filho, e Abigail o consola depois. Em Clemens Point, Jack se apega a um cão perdido que Dutch chama de Cain. Os Braithwaite sequestram Jack e o entregam a Angelo Bronte, que o mantém em sua mansão em Saint Denis até Dutch conseguir levá-lo de volta. Depois que Milton captura Abigail e John fica ferido num roubo a trem, Arthur manda Tilly Jackson levar Jack para Copperhead Landing e esperar Sadie voltar com Abigail. Jack nunca mais vê Arthur. Em 1907, ele e Abigail deixam John em Pronghorn Ranch, mas se reúnem a ele quando estabelece Beecher's Hope. Curiosidades
- ◆Jack and Edgar Ross are the only central characters in the series to appear in all four time periods: 1899 and 1907 in Red Dead Redemption 2, and 1911 and 1914 in Red Dead Redemption. However, Jack is the only one to survive all of the time periods.
- ◆Jack and Ross meet only two times, during "A Fisher of Men" and "Remember My Family"; in both instances, they were near a river and Ross was holding a shotgun.
- ◆Jack Marston is the third youngest playable character in a Rockstar game, after Jimmy Hopkins from Bully and Red Harlow from Red Dead Revolver at the beginning of the game.
- ◆Jack is the only Red Dead protagonist to not bear any facial scars.
- ◆He is also the only protagonist to have freckles.
- ◆The player can use a cheat code to play as an adult Jack Marston before the mission "The Last Enemy That Shall Be Destroyed"; however, doing so will lock any storyline missions the player has and will make the game unavailable to autosave.

- ◆When playable, Jack can be heard muttering to himself or even towards his deceased father when idle for stretches of time.
- ◆Jack does not have his own grunts or screams when falling or getting injured, instead they will be that of generic NPC's or of John.
- ◆When played with low Honor, Jack is the only protagonist in the Redemption saga not to reject prostitutes. Rather, they will reject him instead.
- ◆During The "Last Enemy That Shall Be Destroyed", the player is able to dismount the horse and freely roam as Jack Marston. He will have his own sprinting animation, but other animations are shared with John Marston. This is also the only time the player is able to play as 16 year old Jack.
- ◆Jack's Cowboy Outfit retroactively takes influence from both John Marston and Arthur Morgan. He wears John's hat, holster and gun belt, and also wears a tan jacket, a button-up shirt, a bandana around his neck and dark pants tucked into his boots like Arthur did.
- ◆It's possible that Jack himself took inspiration from the two of them when he crafted his Cowboy Outfit to honor them.
- ◆Jack’s favorite Western novel foreshadows his future confrontation with Ross.
- ◆A randomly occurring audio glitch in Red Dead Redemption 2 became famous due to it changing the player's voice to one that sounds almost identical to Josh Blaylock's take on Jack from the first game. Upon discovery, it caused a great deal of speculation among players, but evidence that the lines seem to belong to a random NPC also voiced by Blaylock later surfaced.
- ◆As a 4-year old in 1899, whilst difficult to notice, Jack is missing a front tooth.
- ◆The 2013 game Grand Theft Auto V, another game developed by Rockstar Games, includes a reference to Jack and an easter egg for Red Dead Redemption; a book can be located in one of the protagonists' houses called "Red Dead" and written by a J. Marston.
