Агнес Дауд влюбляется в мужчину, которого не принимают ее родители, и тайно встречается с ним под старым деревом в Bluewater Marsh. Он становится отцом ее сына, но бросает Агнес ради другой женщины и открывает ее семье правду об их связи. После позора другие женихи тоже отвергают ее. Позже Агнес убеждает его оставить другую женщину, но не может заставить мать и отца принять его. У нее на глазах отец достает оружие и убивает мужчину.
Что происходит дальше, неизвестно наверняка. По причитаниям Агнес можно понять, что горе доводит ее до помешательства, после чего она убивает отца из мести. От ее рук также могли погибнуть мать, сын и другие люди. Агнес вешается на дереве, возле которого встречалась с возлюбленным, надеясь, что он найдет ее после смерти. На частном кладбище Shady Belle стоит надгробие с ее именем, возрастом и приписываемыми ей преступлениями.
С 9 PM до 3 AM Агнес является призраком в тумане Bluewater Marsh. Arthur Morgan или John Marston слышит, а иногда и видит, как она вновь переживает обрывки своей жизни. - ◆Agnes Dowd is very similar to the ghost of Jolene Cranley-Evans from Grand Theft Auto V, another title by Rockstar Games, as they both are ghosts of women who died tragically and who only appear at night and disappear when approached by the player.
- ◆In Chapter 4, Reverend Swanson, visibly spooked and disturbed, shall approach other gang members saying that he has seen ghosts, and when interacted with, he will claim to have seen "the ghost of a young lady, a woman in white" around the marsh.
- ◆The description used by Swanson for her ("woman in white") may be a reference to a Hispanic American folkloric legend about a woman who killed herself out of love, named La Llorona in Hispanic America and Woman in White in the United States. Many versions of what drove her into suicide exists, the most famous being the one which she murdered her children after being abandoned by her husband.
- ◆A gravestone bearing her name can be found just behind Shady Belle, among a group of tombstones. It reads: Agnes Dowd, aged 19, tragically took her life and others. It is unknown which other people Dowd killed, if it's just a metaphor, or whether this account of events is true.

- ◆It's actually possible to "kill" Agnes' ghost if the player throws a tomahawk at her. Looting her will give the player some money and her wedding ring, as well as no Honor loss.
