Die Assault SMG ist eine vollautomatische Personal Defense Weapon der Klasse Machine Guns von Vom Feuer. Ihr Modell basiert auf der Magpul PDR, jedoch ohne den vorderen ergonomischen Griff dieser Waffe, und sie verfügt über einen integrierten Tragegriff über einer kurzen oberen Schiene. Sie verwendet Munition vom Kaliber Cal 5.7×28mm oder STI ACB 6×30mm und fasst 40 Patronen pro Magazin. Ein Schalldämpfer gehört nicht zur Standardausstattung, kann jedoch über das Aufsatzsystem angebracht werden.
In Grand Theft Auto V ist die Assault SMG bei Ammu-Nation für 6.725 $ als Bonuswaffe für Rockstar Games Social Club erhältlich. In Grand Theft Auto Online wird sie bei Ammu-Nation ab Rank 29 verfügbar. Assault SMGs können außerdem bestimmten feindlichen NPCs während der Business Supplies Steal Mission, "Colombian Flake", abgenommen werden, und eine liegt auf einem Schreibtisch auf Ebene B1 im Nightclub eines Spielers.
Ihr Schadenswert beträgt 22, die Feuerrate 55, die Genauigkeit 40 und die Reichweite 35. Reichweite und Genauigkeit sind mit denen der Micro SMG und SMG vergleichbar, während sie etwas mehr Schaden verursacht, aber langsamer feuert. Der Schaden nimmt über Distanz nicht ab, wodurch sie sich gegen Heckrotoren von Hubschraubern nahe der maximalen Reichweite eignet. Die meisten Sturmgewehre und Maschinengewehre sind ihr auf kurze und mittlere Distanz überlegen, und sie kann nicht für Drive-bys eingesetzt werden.

- ◆In real life, the FN P90 uses the FN 5.7×28mm cartridge, while the Magpul PDR uses the 5.56×45mm NATO one. However, in both games, the Assault SMG shares its ammunition with other SMGs for the sake of gameplay convenience.
- ◆Also, the Assault SMG in The Ballad of Gay Tony has etchings on the sighting component that reads "P90 Cal 5.7×28", while the one in GTA V has marking on the front section that reads "STI ACB 6×30mm", which is a fictional cartridge.
- ◆The HUD icon in the Xbox 360/PS3 versions of the game shows the Assault SMG with a magazine. Oddly, the HUD icon in the enhanced version has the magazine missing.
- ◆There is a beta render of the Assault SMG that exists in the game files. This model was apparently based on the FN P90 like The Ballad of Gay Tony iteration, but was altered with a bullpup configuration similar to that of the FN F2000, with the overhead area replaced by a shell ejector. The top of the receiver was a bit smaller, as the P90-style cartridge was absent. Its textures were also unfinished, possibly scrapped early during development in favour of the current model.
