Abe

In 1907, Abe works as a ranch hand for David Geddes at Pronghorn Ranch in Big Valley, West Elizabeth. When John Marston arrives under the name Jim Milton, Abe and foreman Tom Dickens introduce him to the work. Abe shows John around the property and helps him with chores, including milking the cows. He treats the new hand with good humour, though he is nervous around trouble.

A Laramie Gang leader comes to Pronghorn Ranch to pressure Geddes into selling. He threatens Abe while making his demands, and Abe is unable to confront him. John steps in, tells the man to leave Abe alone, and provokes a fight. After John beats the gang leader, the man rides away with a threat to return. Abe thanks John for standing up for him.

The Laramie Gang attacks the ranch that night, and Abe joins John and Tom in driving them back. He later accompanies them after the assault on the gang's hideout. Once they return to Pronghorn Ranch, John asks Abe to remain awake and fire his rifle three times if further trouble arrives. Abe continues working alongside John over the following months. After John leaves for Beecher's Hope, Abe is no longer seen and is presumed to remain at Pronghorn Ranch.
