Player notes

Susan Grimshaw is one of the Van der Linde gang's earliest members, alongside Dutch van der Linde, Hosea Matthews and Arthur Morgan. She was once engaged to a man she calls the best man she ever knew, before his death, and later has a relationship with Dutch. Dutch eventually leaves her for Annabelle, but Susan remains close to him and becomes the gang's arbiter. In 1899, she and Simon Pearson organise every new camp, assign work and demand that the gang pulls its weight.

When the gang reaches Colter after fleeing Blackwater, Susan helps settle everyone into the abandoned settlement. She gives Dutch and Arthur private rooms, while Micah Bell is sent to share with Javier Escuella, Charles Smith, Bill Williamson and Lenny Summers. At Horseshoe Overlook, she shows Arthur his space and tells him that his belongings were recovered, except for his money. She keeps order around camp, presses the members to do their chores and watches over Reverend Swanson after Arthur brings him back from Flatneck Station.

At Clemens Point, Susan worries to Dutch that Molly O'Shea is unhappy, then gladly accepts Dutch's invitation to dance. When Arthur returns badly wounded after escaping the O'Driscolls, she helps him to bed and stays with him. At Shady Belle, she sends Arthur after the missing Tilly Jackson. They rescue Tilly from the Foreman Brothers near Rhodes and return with Anthony Foreman. Susan urges Arthur to kill him. During the O'Driscoll attack on Shady Belle, she fights with a shotgun before Dutch orders her inside.

Susan reunites with Arthur at Lakay after his return from Guarma and urges the gang to find another camp after the Pinkerton assault. At Beaver Hollow, Molly drunkenly claims that she informed the Pinkertons about the Saint Denis bank robbery. As Dutch draws his revolver, Susan shoots Molly dead and has Bill and Pearson burn the body. When Arthur reveals that Micah is the informant, Susan sides with Arthur and John, aiming her shotgun at Micah. Pinkertons approach, Micah shoots Susan in the stomach, and she dies in the standoff.

  • โ—†Sometimes, when Arthur is in camp, Susan may approach and comment on his recent actions. Activities she will discuss include killing innocent civilians, avoiding donating to the box, and spending too much time at camp, among other examples.
  • โ—†If the player does not have a bath for a long enough period of time, Susan will forcibly wash Arthur in a water barrel in camp.
  • โ—†She is physically abusive towards Mary-Beth, and can be seen slapping her face in camp for not doing her chores. It is reasonable to assume that she is physically abusive towards the other young women in camp as well, due to the disdain they have for her. Karen, in particular, expresses a vehement dislike of her, and may crack jokes with Arthur about it, and Tilly will ask him if Dutch "would be mad" if she killed her. Abigail calls her a โ€œhorrendous old hagโ€ after Grimshaw, who is not seen physically abusing her, callously tells her to return to prostitution to help earn money, even though she is a mother to Jack. However, in Tilly's case, their relationship improves after "No, No and Thrice, No".
  • โ—†Arthur says that Dutch has a "soft spot" for her, although ironically enough in the mission "Red Dead Redemption" when Micah kills Susan, Dutch shows no care nor concern for her death showing just how far Dutch had descended into madness.
  • โ—†During the Beaver Hollow chapter, Susan may approach Arthur in camp to tell him that someone smashed the donation box, thus explaining its absence.
  • โ—†She repeatedly mentions her dislike of Mary Linton, much to Arthur's annoyance.
